There are two George families that
settled near one another in Franklin and Colbert counties of
Alabama. Members of these two families lived in the same
community of Pleasant Site in Franklin County and are buried near
one another at Winchester
(Lower Pleasant Site) cemetery. The
patriarchs of one of these families are Alexander George (b.17
Aug 1798) and his brother, Andrew George (sons of James George
and Elender _____ of Caldwell Co., KY).
The other George family, was founded by James
C. George who lived in nearby Itawamba Co.,
MS. Many of his descendents settled in Franklin and Colbert
Counties of Alabama. It is this branch of the George family that
will be the subject of this article. The only kinship
relationship found so far connecting these George families is
that they both married Conwill sisters. Alexander's second wife,
Pricilla E. Conwill Hutcherson (a widow), was the sister of
Rachael Conwill (James C. George's wife). The Conwill name is
sometimes spelled Conwell, but for this sketch, it will be
spelled Conwill.
My son, Jason Williams, when he was age 8,

Pleasant Site Winchester cemetery.
James C. George, was
born about 1804 in Tennessee or south Carolina. He died after
1850 Itawamba Co., Mississppi. He married Rachael Conwill who was
born about 1805 in south Carolina. She was the daughter of Jesse
Conwill, who was born about 1770. James and Rachael had at least
eleven children: Ezekiel George,
born about 1825; Abram B.
George; Wylie George,
born about 1829; Isaac W. George,
born about 1830; John George;
Caroline George, born
about 1834; Jesse Alexander George,
born about 1836; Amy George,
born about 1838; Sarah George,
born about 1840; Rebecca George born
about 1842; Amanda June George,
born 1845. I have records mostly for descendants of Abram B. and
John George, since descendants of these two had more contact with
one another, partially because they both married sisters of the
Crowell family, which I am also a descendant of.
The oldest son, Ezekiel George,

atleast six children, all apparently born in Itawamba County,

Mary George, b. abt 1853; Amanda

on Ezekiel's descendants at this time.
