Adopt a Parrot
Parrots-What makes these birds special? Is it their beauty? Perhaps it is their ability to mimic our speech, give us companionship, live almost as long as we do. Whatever the reason, these birds have paid an expansive price for their distinction.
Over the past 30 years, the demand for parrots has resulted in million of them being taken from the wild. Many have been cruelly treated, and many have not survived. Together with the destruction of forests and other habitats, the threat to the survival of parrot species continues to increase. Over 100 of the 335 species of parrots are in danger of extinction.
The Red- Tailed Parrot(Amazona brasiliensis) is considered to be one of the most endangered parrots of the neotropics. For this reason the "Adopt A Parrot" project was created by students of the International School of Curitiba(ISC) to help ensure the survival of this exotic bird.
