SARA’S BOX OF CHOCOLATES
By Willows
Disclaimers: All CSI characters belong to its creators and NBC. I have nothing to do with it (unfortunately).
Author’s notes: This is my first Nick/Sara shipper fic, so if it’s odd, please forgive me. I only wrote a shipping fic before, and it was a Catherine/Crane. It’s really short, but although it was complete in my mind, I wasn’t finding the right words. Just hope you enjoy it. At least, I finished in time for Valentine’s day. Just would like to apologize for my poor English, but this is not my native language.
Just one thing: This fic is the answer to a challenge. I used all the elements, some more than others, but you’ll see for yourselves.
Spoilers: None at all.
Pairings: Can you guess? In fact there’s two pairs here.
Rating: G
Summary: It’s the day before Valentine’s day and Sara has a box of chocolates.
Feedback: Please, I’d really appreciate it.
Now, let’s go. Hope you enjoy it.

Sara was alone at the break room staring at a box of chocolates that was laying in from of her. She was lost in her own thoughts, in fact.
She bought that box in an impulse and she was not usually an impulsive person. Really not. But she did it. And now she was there, trying to decide what she’d do next. Feel regret and eat it all alone or go ahead with her first purpose? She relaxed her muscles and closed her eyes asking God for a chance and a way to choose the best option.
Well, she could share it with Catherine. It would be a good idea. But Cath would ask her why she decided to buy a box of chocolate exactly the day before Valentine’s Day. "Do you enjoy torturing yourself?" She’d probably ask. And the way Cath looks at people. She seems to be able to read everybody’s mind. That’s odd.
Sara heard the sound of the door being opened but didn’t open her eyes expecting the person to leave soon or at least believe she was sleeping.
"Wow! Special chocolates for a special occasion, ahn?"
Sara half opened her eyes and found the wide-open smile of Nick in front of her.
"Hi, Nick. What’s up? Jealous?"
"Don’t know. Did Hank give it to you or you brought it yourself?"
"This is not of your business."
"I got it. You’ll give it to him. Hope he gives you something cool in return. Coffee?"
Nick was filling a mug with hot coffee and didn’t notice Sara looking at him. When he turned back to face her, she was already browsing a magazine.
"I can’t believe how try to sell all kind of stuff for a single day!"- Sara said trying to sound distracted.
"It’s always the same. Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas. Selling is what matters to them. But at least you have someone to send a gift and spend the day with."
Nick’s voice was not the usual lighted one. He looked at Sara with sadness and tiredness in his eyes. And maybe, just maybe she thought, a little bit of jealousy. Staring at him, his look so intense resting in her, she felt her cheeks burning. Nick noticed and with a last glance, left the break room.

The shift was in a slow motion. Maybe people were so busy trying to find a date that they didn’t have time to think about murder or other sordid stuff.
Sara exiled herself in a room they didn’t use often; the chocolate box was hidden at Grissom’s office. He tried to ask her why she needed to hide it there, but she left his office before he finished his sentence.
So she was there with that small paper facing her. She didn’t know what to write. Her pen was dancing between her long fingers, writing words in the air. But only in the air.
Suddenly, Sara opened a smile and wrote confidently.

When the shift ended, Warrick and Catherine were the first to leave, but before leaving, Warrick asked Nick’s car keys because he believed he forgot his jacket there. Nick knew Catherine’s gift was hidden there, so he gave Warrick the keys with a malicious smile on his gorgeous face.
Warrick brought the keys back to Nick and waved everybody a goodbye.
Sara left before anyone could notice and when Nick paid attention, there was only he and Grissom there.
"Do you wanna company for breakfast?" - He asked his boss. He didn’t want to go home early just to spend the Valentine’s Day alone.
"No, thanks. I’m gonna stay a little more."
"Sure. Good Bye."
"Good bye."
Nick walked through the parking lot silently, his eyes focusing on the ground.
He opened his car’s door in an automatic movement and was about to get in when he found something familiar.
A box of chocolates.
And a note.
‘Breakfast at my place.
Sara’
