This page contains poems
written by others... some are by my dear friends and others I have taken
from elsewhere with permission. I hope that you may find some hope in them...
a glimmer of not only loss but what we have gained from our losses. GOD
BLESS EACH OF YOU!
CANDLES FOR AMERICA
Candles are lit at 7:00
as we gather outside
and from all our
busyness stop.
Putting aside
the cares of the day
we bow our heads
and quietly pray
for those who were lost,
those who must go on,
for all that we have,
our Country, our home.
We know not what
kind of future we face
whether war or peace,
but we can pray
and stand behind our
Nation through it all
with candles glowing
as this night falls.

THE DAY THAT CHANGED
OUR LIVES FOREVER
We watched in horror
as the tall buildings fell
in the great new city
(was that what
Nostradamus called it?)
We couldn't believe our eyes.
We still can't believe them
three days later.
Dividing lines meant nothing
anymore, as we united.
Neither Democrat nor Republican,
but united we became.
And prayer was no longer
outlawed by any, as on all
our lips,
were all the prayers we knew,
for the families, for our
country.
We don't know what will become
of us. We don't know
what
the next few days, weeks,
months will bring.
But we know we need help
beyond ourselves.
We believe in God.
Dear God, bless America.

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE
In the blink of an eye -
All that surrounded us fell
away
Ashes obscured the brightness
of day
Life, as we'd known it, ENDED
that day....
In the blink of an eye -
Massive destruction reared
its ugly head
Mourning our losses - burying
our dead -
The Grim Reaper had come forth
instead ....
In the blink of an eye -
Mothers and fathers lost daughters
and sons
Chaos was rampant and touched
everyone
Billowing smoke and filth
hid the sun ---
In the blink of an eye -
People clung tightly to whomever
was near
Barriers of race, sex and
creed were unclear
Blurred by the UNITY soon
to appear
In the blink of an eye -
Legions of angels will come
forth to stand
Helping human armies defending
this Land
Expecting a miracle from God's
very Hands ....
In the blink of an eye -
All shall behold the mercies
of God
Vengeance is Mine, saith the
Lord
Tremble and fear - those who
live by the sword
For by this shall you surely
come to an end
Swiftly, without remedy -
On this, then depend
The whole world will watch
as God's judgment extends
Keep watch - For He's coming
-
In the blink of an eye........

WAR ZONE
We've come this way before
- say some
The end of days has not yet
come
Wars have raged throughout
the years
Nothing's gone - the earth's
still here
But what about the prophecies
Which foresaw events still
yet to be??
They're unfolding right in
front of all
Each statement proven beyond
fault
We've come this way before
- but, wait!!
Revelation most clearly states
That this earth will one day
cease to be
When Jesus comes - A new one,
will be
Yes, many wars have come and
gone
We've stood our ground - Brave
battles, won
But when you wrestle not against
flesh and blood
The outcome is plain - You
turn to God!!
For everything around today
Will all be gone - be blown
away
Bits and pieces of our pasts
Yet, nothing which could ever
last
Eternally, save for God alone
Believe He came - Our sins,
atoned
Faith knows the worst - Yet
believes the best
Only trust in God will give
us rest
For a time as this will not
come again
Nor has such ever been known
of man
Throughout history, all evils
seen
Combined, could not even begin
To account for what is yet
to be
Encountered in depravity
Injustice, violence rules
its cruel head
Millions tortured - Billions
dead
But, God is found in every
heart
Which turns to Him, to find
its start
With eyes, beholding God's
own Son
He's come for us - This war
is won!!!
We are going HOME.....

SUDDENLY, SILENCE
This started out as any other
normal day
Nothing unusual or ominous
stood in my way
I boarded the plane, knowing
soon I would be
Back in your presence - Dwelling
safely
Shock quickly hit as we froze
in mid-air
Terrorists leaped from out
of nowhere
Hell has no fury as what I
surmised
Horrific --- the only word
to describe
As we sped through the air,
World Trade Center bound
I cried out to God - countless
others - The sounds
Of screaming, glass breaking,
and wailing I hear
My own heart is shouting -
I'm frozen in fear
Suddenly, silence - Day has
turned into night
My God, and His Angels - what
a powerful sight!!
No longer entangled in the
largest disaster
in this nation's history ----
I'm standing upright, unhurt,
unbound, and free
It is truly the FACE OF GOD
whom I see........

for another special someone
As the soot and dirt and ash
rained down,
We became one color.
As we carried each other down
the stairs of the burning building
We became one class.
As we lit candles of waiting
and hope
We became one generation.
As the firefighters and police
officers fought their way into the inferno
We became one gender.
As we fell to our knees in
prayer for strength,
We became one faith.
As we whispered or shouted
words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.
As we gave our blood in lines
a mile long,
We became one body.
As we mourned together the
great loss
We became one family.
As we cried tears of grief
and loss
We became one soul.
As we retell with pride of
the sacrifice of heroes
We become one people.
We are
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people
We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America!
