I attended the 229th Aviation Battalion reunion that was held in conjunction with the Vietnam Helicopter Crewmembers Association reunion in Louisville, KY in 2001. I didn't see many folks I knew, but was delighted to link up with these guys. Rocky Lane was the Battalion S-4 when I was there, then commanded my old unit (B Company) after I left. Mike Ward was our Operations Sergeant, and is the guy who transmitted the message, "You have a pink telegram from the Red Cross," when I was flying a night mission. The message meant daughter, Theresa, was born. Skip Shreve was in the outfit after I left, and I met him for the first time at the reunion. (There's a good picture of a younger Rocky on page 2). These guys are so young! ... how could they have served in Vietnam? |
Let's do a 360 and get the hell out of here! |
That's it for now ... as time permits, I will continue to convert more slides. I also welcome photos from any of you who would like to have some posted on this site. I can use emailed pix, slides (that will be returned to you), snapshots (also returned), or even negatives. As I acquire more photos, I'm sure I will need help with identification. |
Best wishes to all, Jim |

I returned to Hunter AAF for the third time, but this time I had nothing to do with aviation. Ultimately, I just couldn't handle being a "strap hanger." I hung in there for as long as I could, but decided to retire in 1987. |

In May 2007, I was asked to be the guest speaker at a dining out for Moody AFB's 41st Rescue Squadron. What an honor! A couple of weeks later they were flying missions in Afghanistan. |
