BPO in India

At present India is undoubtedly the BPO superpower of the world but there are other strong competitors of India who might spoil India's party. China is one such country which can eat into the BPO share (market) of India. But for the time being India is well ahead of China because of some inherent advantages.

ABC News Report On Outsourcing To India

India is currently booming in the BPIO arena and has scored over China to emerge as the top offshore destination for Global businesses. In the 2004 offshore index, India remains the star performer. It has once again captured the top spot in outsourcing by a comfortable margin due to its strong mix of low costs and noteworthy depth in human resources. This fact was brought out in a study conducted by AT Kearney, an international consultancy agency.

India proved better than China on account of several factors. The study pointed out that China lags behind India in terms experience and other important factors like IT and management education, language skills, concerns about intellectual property and overall country risk. As per the "2004 Offshore Location Attractiveness Index", which evaluated all countries based on corporate surveys, offshore experience, labor and government initiatives, Malaysia, Czech Republic and Singapore make up the next three countries, after India in outsourcing.

Resilience of Indians (Strong yet so peaceful)

The 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings were a series of seven bomb blasts that took place over a period of 11 minutes on the Suburban Railway in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay), capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra and India's financial capital. 209 people lost their lives and over 700 were injured in the attacks. After the blasts the only thing that came to the rescue of people were the people themselves. The resilience and courage with which the Mumbaikars turned down yet another disaster is worth appreciating. If in 2005 it was overcoming a natural disaster, 2006 demanded a man-made tragedy to be overcome. It didn't make much of a difference to the brave citizens of this city as far as their duty towards their fellow citizens was concerned.

This was a classic example of how things can be set in order if every citizen tries to abide by his/her own fundamental duties towards the State and fellow citizens. While talking about fundamental duties one recalls that there are together with it certain fundamental rights that the Constitution confers on all the citizens which are to be protected by the govt in power. We saw the extraordinary spirit of Mumbaikars helping victims, carrying the dead and injured, and distributing tea and biscuits to the stranded and back to work next day. These heroes of Mumbai deserve unqualified praise. Salam Mumbai! Well done!
However, with due respect to this great survival spirit, we also need to be more respectful to the victims of terrorism. This respect should be silent, peaceful, and symbolic and yet determined to give a clear message to the perpetrators of the terror that we will not forget their atrocities and will do our best to punish them by full force of law. It’s the duty of every Mumbaikar to ensure that Tuesday’s events are not repeated in their brave city again.
