		Chapter Twenty-One Trading Spaces June 19th 2003 Intro Paige watched for her cue and when she got it she started walking down the street. “Hi, I’m Paige Davis and welcome to trading spaces. The show where couples get two days to redecorate a room in each other’s homes. With a budget of only one thousand dollars and only one decorator it calls for some crazy times. Today we get a special treat. We’re in the Motor City, Detroit Michigan. Getting ready to do our second celebrity Trading Spaces. Joining us today are none other then the Backstreet Boys…” ***@* 8:00am…Nick and Justin’s house…questions about rooms “Justin and Nick, all I need for you to do is tell us what you want and don’t want to be done in your room.” Explained the cameraman who they figured out was named Teddy. Nick looked at Justin and the smiled before tuning back to the camera that was now rolling. “They can pretty much do anything to the room. I like to think my friends know me well enough to not do bright pink or something.” Said Nick “Yeah, as far as the stuff in the room goes, I could careless what happens to it. Paint it, prime it, put cloth all over it. I don’t care, just make it look cool.” *@* 8:00am…Kevin and Kristin’s house…questions about rooms “Kevin and Kristin, now I need you to tell the viewers what you would and wouldn’t want done to your room.” Explained the cameraman who they figured out was named Sean. “Absolutly NO PINK!” Exclaimed Kevin. Kristin laughed. “We went over this like crazy last night, and that’s all he could come up with. No pink. I guess I would also like to add that I wouldn’t really like the carpet pulled out and have hardwood floors, to me that seems too cold for a baby’s room.” Kevin nodded and looked right at the camera. “Did I mention that I don’t want pink?” *@* 8:00am…Marshall and AJ’s house…questions about rooms “Marshall and AJ, I’m going to need you to tell me and the viewers what kind of things you wouldn’t and would like done to your room.” Explained the camerawoman who they figured out was named Sasha. “I think you should really be asking Hailie that question, but since she’s not here I guess we will have to answer.” Laughed AJ. “Yeah, I know for a fact she would say anything Pink is good. That’s her favorite color, for the life of me I could never figure out why.” “She would totally hate if you took away space for her Barbie’s. That girl lives for those dolls.” Added AJ. Marshall nodded. “Anything but that would be good I suppose. If I had any say though it would turn into basketball room or something and totally take away the pink.” *@* 8:00am…Howie and Vanessa’s house…questions about rooms “Vanessa and Howie, we need to hear what kind of things you do, and don’t want to be done to your rooms.” Explained the cameraman who they figured out was named Miles. “I could care less what happens to the existing furniture. This isn’t our stuff so get rid of it all I don’t care.” Laughed Howie. “I was a little scared when I found out Vern would be working on our room, cuz I don’t like earthly tones and that’s what he likes to do. So I guess I will have to live with whatever happens.” Added Vanessa. *@* 8:15am…Outside Kevin and Kristin’s home “Ty has the Mathers and Dorough houses right?” Asked Amy as she put on her tool belt. Paige nodded. “Yeah, and you are staying over here with the Carter and Richardson homes.” “Kristin, I didn’t eat the last piece of pizza on purpose. How was I supposed to know you wanted it.” Exclaimed Kevin as he and Kristin made their way across the lawn to meat up with Paige, Justin, and Nick. Kristin just glared at Kevin and continued walking up to Paige. “So, are we ready to do this?” She asked Paige. “We’re just waiting for your neighbors and then we can get started.” Kevin looked down the street to see Justin and Nick making their way down to meet them. “They’re coming.” “Sorry we’re a little late. It’s getting harder for Justin here to move around.” Explained Nick as they joined the rest of the group. Paige looked at Justin and smiled. “You better take it easy today. We don’t need you getting yourself too tired out. “We don’t have to worry about that. I’ve gotten a huge lecture already about not getting too tired.” Said Justin looking right at Nick. Nick shrugged. “Is it my fault that I care so much about him?” Everybody laughed. “Ok guys, we need to get started. I know it’s early but let’s try to do this.” Said Paige looking at the cameraman. The cameraman held up three fingers and did a count down. Right when he got to one finger Paige turned to the neighbors and smiled. “Well, you guys know the rules. You’ve only got two days to finish your projects. You can’t have anything to do with what’s going on in your own home, which means you will be staying overnight in your friend’s houses. Understand?” The couples both nodded. “Ok then, lets trade spaces.” Exclaimed Paige as she handed the keys over to the homeowners. *@* 8:30am…Outside Marshall and AJ’s house. “Here she comes.” Said AJ as they watched Paige drove up in the car she had rented. Things were going to be a little different since Paige had to drive between streets for the four-way episode. “Sorry guys, this is a little crazy.” She apologized as she walked up to the group. “Don’t worry about it, we understand this is not the norm.” Said Howie understandingly. Paige smiled and looked at Vanessa. “You sure picked the nice one.” Then she looked to AJ and laughed. “I’m not sure why you picked him though.” If AJ hadn’t heard the humor in her voice he might have been offended but instead he laughed along with everybody else. “All right guys we need to get this show on the road.” She turned to the cameraman that was doing this side of the show and watched as he did the count down thing again. When he got to one she started to talk. “Ok, it seems like I just did this.” She laughed. “But now I’m here talking to AJ, Marshall, Howie and Vanessa.” Taking a breath she turned to the groups. “The rules are like this. You’ve only got two days to complete all projects, and you may not by any means know what is going on in your own homes, which means you will be staying the night in each other’s houses. Understood?” The couples both nodded. “All right then, trade spaces.” She handed the keys to the groups and took a deep breath. This was going to be one hectic episode, but she had a feeling it was going to be worth it. *@* 8:30am…Inside the Richardson household. Nick followed a waddling Justin into the room that was going to be the Richardson baby nursery. Frank looked up to see the couple walk into the room and smiled. “Welcome team, you guys ready to spend the next forty-eight hours on this space?” Nick laughed. “I sure hope it only takes us forty-eight hours, this room needs a lot of work.” He said looking around. “You’re right there, but I’m sure we will manage to get it finished. But first off, what do you guys see in this room?” “Something having to do with the outdoors. Kevin and Kristin would live in their cabin in the mountains if they could. They are really outdoorsy people.” Said Justin. Nick nodded. “I agree, something outdoorsish would be a good idea, but I’m not sure about the cabin feel. Kristin really has an issue with things feeling cold, and I have a feeling log cabin would be too much wood.” “Those are both great ideas, and I just happen to have almost the exact same idea. What I was thinking is making this sort of a jungle theme. Painting a tree in that corner.” He said pointing at the far corner of the room by the window. Painting the carpet green to look like grass, having TY build us a changing table out of bamboo along with a matching rocking chair. I hear they really like this crib they bought so we are going to keep that the same, just make some leave looking bed clothes and painting a picture of a hut on the wall behind it.” Suggested Frank. Justin and Nick looked at each other with huge smiles on their faces. “That sounds perfect!” “Well then lets clear this room so we can get started.” Amy walked into the room. “Paige told me to come and help you guys out getting things set up since our dude here is about ready to pop.” Frank nodded. “Probably a good idea.” *@* 8:30am…Inside the Carter-Timberlake household. Kevin and Kristin walked into the room. “Hey Gen.” Gen jumped up from where she was sitting on the floor and practically ran to them. “Hey guys… you ready to get started?” Kevin and Kristin nodded. “Good…good. So tell me what you guys see happening in this room.” Kevin thought for a moment. “I’m thinking something fun, something childish…cuz we all know that Nick and Justin are pretty much kids themselves.” Kristin laughed. “Yeah you’ve got a point there… I was thinking that something to do with games would be cool. You know a bored game motif.” Gen pretty much jumped up in the air. “You guys must be psychic or something because that is almost exactly what I had in mind.” She walked over to the wall across from them. “I was picturing this whole wall looking like a scrabble board. With words having to do with the baby, Nick and Justin and also the group. Kind of like a family tree type wall.” “Sounds great.” Said Kevin. “And then I have this great idea for the floor but it hasn’t come in yet, and I will show you that when it comes in. But for the crib and changing table stuff. They will look like monopoly pieces. Silver colors.” Kevin and Kristin smiled. “Sounds perfect.” “Well then let’s get the stuff out of this room so we can get started.” *@* 8:45am…Inside the Mathers-McLean household. “Why in the world did we get stuck with Doug.” Whispered Howie as he and Vanessa walked into Hailie’s bedroom. They weren’t surprised to see Doug already taking things apart. “Hey Doug.” Said Vanessa. Doug turned around. “There you guys are I didn’t think you were going to show up.” He said laughing. “Anyways, what do you guys see going on in this room?” “Something to do with Barbie’s. Hailie lives and breaths Barbie’s.” Suggested Vanessa. “I totally agree, and something in Pink.” Added Howie. Doug nodded. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. Listen to this. Hailie’s own Barbie dream house, except its Hailie’s dream house.” Vanessa smiled a huge smile. “She would totally love that! “Very good. What I was seeing was making a new stand for her TV and then brining in a type of bench/couch to put over there by the window. Adding a canopy to the bed and everything we will put a ‘H’ on it like Barbie has on her B’s.” “Perfect.” Exclaimed both Vanessa and Howie at the same time. “Then lets get everything out of the room and get started. I’m lucky to have the only couple without the pregnant person.” *@* 8:45am…Inside the Dorough Household. “I can’t believe I’m about to redecorate my own house for somebody else.” Whined AJ as he and Marshall walked into his old bedroom. Vern laughed. “It’s not a good sign if I’m already hearing complaining.” “Don’t mind him he’s just being pregnant.” Laughed Marshall. AJ glared at him but didn’t say anything because Vern cleared his throat. “How about you guys tell me what you want to see happen in this room.” AJ looked around. “Nothing, I like it just the way it is.” Vern looked at AJ confused. Marshall noticed this and laughed again. “He says that because this used to be his house, and this is his old bedroom.” Vern just mouthed ‘oh’, not sure what to say next. “I think we should do something romantic, since when they move in here they will be newlyweds. They need to catch up to the rest of us if they want to be having kids.” Giggled Marshall. AJ couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah romantic, and nothing pastel. Vanessa can’t stand pastels.” Vern nooded. “Sound perfect. I was thinking we could do something like a sponge type painting on the walls with light and dark purple. Then maybe make some dark purple bed clothes along with a sheer light purple canopy/curtin thing to go around the bed.” Marshall and AJ smiled. “That sounds perfect. Purple is both of their favorite color.” “Well, then lets get this stuff cleared out.” *@* 12:30pm…Carter-Timberlake household “So while Kevin is painting the game board on the walls, you and I are going to work on the fabrics.” Said Gen. Kristin nodded. “So what kind of fabric are we using?” Gen dug around in a large box and pulled out a brightly colored piece of fabric. “This here is a monopoly game board.” “Oh wow, that’s awesome. I never knew they had something that looked like that.” Exclaimed Kristin looking at fabric closer up. “So this is going to be the bedding?” Gen nodded. “The bedding and the curtins will be made out of this.” “This is going to look great.” *@* 12:30pm…Dorough household “There is no way you are getting me to sow.” Exclaimed Marshall, looking at Vern. Vern laughed. “You don’t have much choice in the matter, AJ’s with Ty working on the new bed.” “Why couldn’t I be the one working on the bed and AJ can be the one sowing.” “I don’t know, but we don’t have time to argue about it. Its already afternoon on the first day and we need to get going.” Said Vern, giggling to himself. He was part of a bet. AJ has pretty much sworn that Marshall would never sow in his life, and if Vern could get him to sow he would give him fifty bucks. Thinking he could use the extra money if he went over budget he gladly accepted the bet. Marshall groaned and sat down behind the sowing machine. “Alright, so what do I have to do with this thing?” Vern brought over a stack of dark purple material. “This is the fabric we are going to use for the bedding. What I need you to do is sow pillow cases for me.” “Fine, show me how to do this.” *@* 12:30…Mathers household “Hey Nessa, can you hand me that paint tray?” Asked Howie. “Sure.” Vanessa grabbed the full paint tray and carried it over to Howie. Right when she was about to hand it to him she tripped on the drop cloth and ended up spilling half of the paint onto Howie and the wall behind him. Looking up at Howie she couldn’t help but laugh. “Opps.” Howie looked down at his clothes in shock. He was covered in pink paint and Vanessa was laughing at him. Getting a sly look on his face he looked down at his laughing fiancé. “Oh Vanessa, sweetheart. I think you want a kiss.” Vanessa screeched and got up off the floor quickly. “Oh no you don’t Howie Dorough, I didn’t do it on purpose.” She exclaimed running around the room trying to get away from a paint covered Howie. Seeing Doug walk into the room she ran behind him. “Doug save me!” Doug looked over at Howie and shook his head. “Nuh uh, I’m not getting myself all messy, and you two need to calm down, we’ve got work to do.” He said laughing. Vanessa and Howie both stopped and hung their heads like children in trouble with their teacher or parents. “Sorry Doug.” They said before laughing and chasing each other around the room again. *@* 12:30…Richardson household “I never thought I would be painting carpet.” Laughed Nick as he sprayed the floor again. Frank laughed. “Just one of the fine points to home decorating. You get to do things you never thought about doing to your own house.” Nick nodded. “Are you a dad Frank?” Frank nodded and smiled. “I have three kids, two boys and a girl. (AN: I have no idea if Frank has kids…but in my story he does…so there hehe.) Nick smiled back. “I sometimes can’t believe I’m going to be a daddy in a few weeks.” Frank turned to look at Nick. “You’ll make a great dad Nick. I’ve only known you for a few hours, but I know you will.” *@* 7:30pm…Carter-Timberlake household “Well guys, it’s time for me to give you you’re homework.” Said Gen walking into the room where Kevin and Kristin were painting the crib and changing table the silver color. Kevin groaned. “I never thought I would hear that word again after finishing high school.” Kristin laughed and hit Kevin on the arm softly. “What would you like us to do?” Gen looked around the room. “Kevin, you can finish the scrabble board wall, by putting the letters on the squares.” Looking around again and pointed at the furniture they were painting. “These can be finished too. And I actually think that’s about it. You guys have been a great team.” Kevin and Kristin smiled. “Sure no problem.” *@* 7:30pm…Dorough household Vern sat down his paintbrush and looked around the room. “Great job today guys. You’ve been a great team.” Marshall laughed. “I think you mean Aje has been a good team, I’ve been a pain in the ass, just admit it.” AJ rolled his eyes and turned to Vern. “Is this when you give us our homework?” Vern had to laugh. AJ had been replaying things the whole day, asking when they were going to do all the normal trading spaces stuff. “Yes Aje, this is when I give out the homework. Which I will add isn’t very much since you guys have BOTH been a great team.” Looking around the room again. “I guess all I need for you to finish up is painting the head and baseboards of the bed the same black color you painted the dresser and nightstands. Also give the east wall its second coat of paint, I haven’t gotten to that one yet.” “Is that it?” Asked AJ in shock. Vern laughed. “Yes AJ, we don’t always give out bunches of homework.” *@* 7:30pm…Mathers-McLean household “Vanessa, go ahead and put that paintbrush down for a second so I can talk to you guys.” Called Doug as he and Howie walked into the room. Vanessa put the paintbrush down and listened. “It’s time for me to give you you’re homework. We’ve got quite a bit done today, but still a lot more to get done. Right now all I can see for you to do is finish painting the dressers and nightstands, and put a coat of primer on the TV stand.” Explained Doug. Howie and Vanessa nodded. “I think we can do that.” *@* 7:30pm…Richardson household “Alrighty you two love birds, it’s now the moment you’ve been waiting for. Homework time!” Exclaimed Frank. Justin and Nick turned too look at Frank and groaned. “We’ve been working our butts off all day, doesn’t that count as some type of reward to not have to have homework?” Laughed Justin. Frank laughed too. “Nope, sorry dudes but if we are going to get this jungle paradise finished by tomorrow night, I’ve gota have you finishing up the paintings on the walls and at least have primer on the bamboo pieces.” Justin and Nick nodded. “Yes sir.” They said with a mock saloot to Frank as he walked out of the room. *@* DAY TWO! 10:00am…Carter-Timberlake household Gen walked into the room with a large box in her hand. “Good morning” Kevin and Kristin turned to look at Gen and smiled. “Good morning.” They said at the same time. Kevin looked at the box in Gen’s hand. “What’s in the box?” “This my friends is the floor surprise.” Gen said putting the slightly heavy box down on the floor. Kristin and Kevin walked to the box. “Ok, then what’s in it?” Kristin asked. Gen open the box and pulled out a small carpet square. She held it up for them to see. Kevin read what was on the square and laughed. “Boardwalk. That is so cool.” He said looking through the box finding all the other monopoly game board squares. Kristin nodded. “Very cool, but how do we put them on?” “Well, since there is only hardwood floor in here right now, all we have to do is place these around the outside of the room. And then I have an area rug that will go in the middle.” Gen tried to explaine. Kevin stood up and clapped his hands. “OK. Then lets get to work!” **@** 10:00am Richardson household “Good morning guys!” Frank exclaimed as he walked into the jungle theme room. “Wow, you guys did a great job.” Nick yawned and smiled. “Thanks, I was up until like 4am working on it.” Justin smiled sheepishly. “I went to bed around 10.” Frank giggled and messed up Justin’s hair. “You’re pregnant, I’m glad you got you’re rest.” Nick got up off the floor. “So, Mr. Slave driver, what do you have planned for us today?” Frank looked around the room. “We just need to finish the bedding, and put another coat on the walls and floor and I believe we’re set. You guys have been a great team.” Nick stretched his arms over his head. “Well, lets get this show on the road.” *@* 10:00 am Mathers-McLean household “I wish we were allowed to change clothes.” Howie complained looking down at his still pink paint covered clothes. Vanessa laughed and was about to respond but Doug came walking into the room. “Good morning team.” Said Doug as he walked in carrying a small box. Vanessa smiled at Doug. She was actually surprised how much she loved working with the other man. “Good morning Doug.” “I’m really proud of you guys for getting all the things done I told you to.” Doug said looking around the room at the finished projects. Howie looked down at the box. “What’s in the box?” Doug smiled. “These are the letters we are going to put around on all the furniture. I thought it would be more fun to do it this way, instead of just painting it.” “Will, that put you over budget?” Paige asked walking into the room. Doug rolled his eyes and put his arm around Paige. “Even if it does, I’m sure these guys have enough money.” He said winking at Vanessa and Howie. Paige snorted and threw her hands in the air. “Why do I even bother!” she exclaimed walking out of the room. Everybody left in the room just laughed. *@* 10:00am Dorough household. “You are not doing that!” exclaimed Marshall shaking his head at AJ. “Why not, it was my room.” AJ said holding the small paintbrush in his hand. “You are not writing ‘AJ was here’ on their wall. That’s just creepy man.” Marshall said taking the brush away from AJ. Vern came walking into the room and smiled. “Good morning guys, and good job on the room.” AJ glared at Marshall but smiled at Vern. “Good morning to you too Vern.” Marshall shook his head and got up off the floor. “So what we gota do today?” “Finish the bedding, and put another coat on the bed and I think that’s pretty much it.” Vern said putting things down on the floor. “So lets get working.” 8:00pm Carter-Timberlake household…talk with the designers Paige sat down next to Gen and smiled once the camera started rolling. “So how was it working with Kevin and Kristen? Gen giggled. “Those two are just so cute together. They are a perfect couple and great workers. We were finished with time to spare, and you know that doesn’t happen much on this show. Paige laughed and looked around the room. “So how do you like the room?” “I love the room, I think the whole game theme is a perfect one for Justin and Nick. Like Kevin and Kristin said, they are big kids themselves.” Paige nodded. “You were 20 dollars under budget too, that’s pretty impressive, how did you manage that even with those carpet squares?” “I didn’t have to spend much money on wood this time. Most of their pieces were already intact.” Gen explained. *@* 8:00pm Richardson household…talk with designers Frank sat down next to Paige and smiled. “This room turned out great didn’t it.” Paige laughed. “Yeah, it sure did.” She said looking around. “So, how was it working with a very pregnant Justin Timberlake? If I remember correctly he’s due in only three weeks.” “He did great, he had to rest a lot and that’s understandable, but even so we managed to get things done on time. Nick was a great guy and a trooper, even though he was working today on only like 3 hours of sleep.” “You were under budget too, do you know how much?” Paige asked smiling. Frank thought for a second. “I believe it was 3 dollars and 67 cents.” “ 3 dollars and 65 cents actually.” Paige said laughing. Frank rolled his eyes and looked right at the camera. “So I was off 2 cents, go ahead and shoot me.” *@* 8:00pm Mathers-McLean household…talk with the designers. “This sure is one pink room.” Paige exclaimed sitting down next to Doug. Doug nodded. “Not really my color, but hey if I was a seven year old girl, I probably would have picked it too.” Paige laughed. “Yeah you’ve got a point there.” “I didn’t go over budget you know.” Doug said smirking. Paige rolled her eyes. “Yes, I know you were fine by seven cents.” “Hey seven cents is seven cents. I’m surprised since my homeowners spilled a lot of our paint all over themselves.” *@* 8:00pm Dorough household…Talk with designers. Paige couldn’t help but yawn. “You’re my last person to talk to, I hope I don’t fall asleep on you.” Vern laughed. “This has been a pretty crazy show hasn’t it.” Paige nodded. “Sure has, and I heard that you’re homeowners kept you on you’re toes though.” Vern groaned. “Yes, they sure have. But really they were a great team and we got a lot finished in a small amount of time.” “Do you think Vanessa and Howie will like their room? I heard they are a pretty picky couple.” “I sure hope so, their friends seem to think so, so I will take their word for it.” Vern said. *@* 9:00pm Richardson household…reviling. Paige stood with Kristin and Kevin holding their hands. “Ok guys now is the time you’ve both been waiting for.” “Can I open my eyes?” Kristin asked wiggling around in anticipation. Paige giggled. “Yes, open you’re eyes and see you’re new room.” Kevin and Kristin opened their eyes and gasped. “Oh my god! I love it”Kristin exclaimed jumping up and down slightly. “Is this even the same room?” Kevin said smiling looking around the jungle room. Paige smiled. “I’m sure it is the same room Kevin.” Kevin and Kristin went about looking around the room at all the new pieces. **@** 9:15pm Mathers-McLean household…Reviling Paige held onto Marshall and AJ’s hands tight. “So, you guys ready to see you’re new room?” “Totally ready.” AJ exclaimed. “Yeah show us already.” Paige rolled her eyes and laughed. “Ok. Then open you’re eyes and see you’re new room.” AJ and Marshall opened their eyes at the same time and started to bust up laughing. “Wow, this sure is a pink room, but I know Hailie will love it.” Marshall said smile. AJ nodded in agreement. “Yes, she will love it. Hell, I think I’m starting to love it.” Everybody laughed. *@* “I’m scared to open my eyes.” Said Vanessa as she held onto Paige’s hand for dear life. Paige giggled. “I think you’re gunna like it.” “I hope she’s gunna like it, other wise I’m gunna be screwed.” Howie mumbled. Both girls couldn’t help but laugh. “OK guys, lets open our eyes now and see this room, so we can both get over to Justin and Nick’s place and then we can be done and go home.” Howie and Vanessa didn’t need to be asked twice they opened their eyes. “Oh god! This is great!” Vanessa exclaimed with a big smile on her face. “Its purple!” Howie nodded. “Yeah it sure is.” Paige laughed. “What do you think of it Howie.” Howie smiled. “I love it.” *@*** 9:45pm Carter-Timberlake household…Reviling. Everybody gathered around out in the hallway to watch Justin and Nick see their room. “I hope they like it.” Kristin whispered to everybody who could hear. Meanwhile in the room Justin and Nick are holding onto Paige’s hands ready to see their room. “OK guys, just go ahead and open you’re eyes, I know you can’t wait to see you’re new room.” Paige said smiling. She loved this room. Nick and Justin opened their eyes at the same time. Nick’s giggled like crazy. “This is so perfect!” Justin gasped and turned a funny shade of white. Nick turned around to look at his boyfriend when he didn’t hear him going crazy. “Justin?” Justin had the most scared look on his face and didn’t know what to say. Paige looked back and forth between both guys and some how managed to look down at the ground and gasped herself. “Oh god, guys turn off the camera, his water just broke!”
