PRENATAL VISITS

11/16/98 - 8am  Positive home pregnancy test!!

12/11/98 - 1pm  First prenatal appointment.  I weighed... well never mind what I weighed!!  I'll just post how much I gain or lose!!  (7 weeks 4 days)

01/08/99 - 10:30am  Second prenatal appointment.  I have lost 6 lbs since my first appointment.  It's probably due to the morning sickness that started at 6 weeks.  Dr. E (my ob) couldn't find the baby's heartbeat with a doppler, so he sent me down to ultrasound.  I had a transvaginal ultrasound and we saw the heartbeat and the baby moving.  Cameron, Caleb and Bailey were with us.  Cameron came to the conclusion that he saw a baby on that screen!!  We hadn't told them about the pregnancy yet.  I guess it's time to tell the grandparents!!  (11 weeks 4 days)

02/03/99 - 1pm  Third prenatal appointment.  I have not gained or lost any weight since my last appointment.  Morning sickness is still a problem.  We heard the baby's heartbeat with a doppler.  Dr. E said I won't be having any more ultrasounds unless my measurements are off at future appointments.  (15 weeks 2 days)

02/17/99 - I had the AFP test today.  Dr. E says we should have the results at my next appointment.  (17 weeks 2 days)

02/20/99 - 9:15pm  We spent 4 hours in early labor lounge at the hospital.  I got a migraine on the 19th and couldn't keep anything down.  I finally called Dr. E around 8:30pm and he sent me straight to the hospital.  I received 2 bags of glucose water via IV, Phenergan in the bag to aid with the nausea and Demerol in the line to stop the headache.  It took 3 attempts to insert the IV since I was so dehydrated.  (17 weeks 5 days)

03/03/99 - 1pm  Fourth prenatal appointment.  The AFP test came back ok.  I have lost another 6 lbs.  It's probably due to the flu I've had for a week.  Dr. E wants to see me back in one week.  If I haven't gained any weight by then he will admit me for an IV.  Since the Phenergan knocks me out, he prescribed a smaller dosage and I am to take it at night.  The excessive weight loss also gives us a medical reason for another ultrasound.  Dr. E was surprised that I have felt fetal movement since 14 weeks.  Daryl even felt it kick this week.  (19 weeks 2 days)

03/08/99 - 9:45am  Ultrasound.  Everything looks good.  The measurements are right on schedule.  The tech said it looks like we're having another boy.  But, she also said that there was an awful lot of umbilical cord in that area.  (20 weeks)

03/10/99 - 2pm  Fifth prenatal appointment to check weight gain.  I have gained 9 lbs since my last appointment.  I am still 3 lbs less than my prepregnancy weight.  Dr. E was happy with the weight gain.  But, he wants me to slow down now.  (20 weeks 2 days)

04/09/99 - 11:15am  Sixth prenatal appointment.  I have gained 1 pound since my last visit.  That puts me at 2 lbs less than my prepregnancy weight.  We discussed the option of having Cameron and Caleb present for the delivery.  (24 weeks 4 days)

04/30/99 - 11:15am  Seventh prenatal appointment.  I have gained almost 5 lbs since my last visit.  I am now 3 lbs over my prepregnancy weight.  I am now starting my "every other week" visits.  (27 weeks 4 days)

05/10/99 - 7-9pm  Siblings at Birth class.  Caleb has decided that he doesn't want to be in the room when the baby is born.  Cameron would like to be in the room, but not necessarily watch.  (29 weeks)

05/14/99 - 10:15am  Eighth prenatal appointment.  I have gained 4 lbs since my last visit.  I have gained a total of 7 lbs throughout the pregnancy.  I have a cold.  So, Dr E prescribed Entax for my nasal congestion.  (29 weeks 4 days)

05/22/99 - 7:30am  Daryl and I left for a 10 day vacation at 1am this morning.  We only made it on the road for 2-1/2 hours before I got sick.  We found a hospital that treated me for food poisoning.  I was given an IV and Phenergan in the IV.  They decided to admit me for observation but changed their minds after learning of my history of preterm labor.  They no longer had an OB department.  So, I was transferred to a larger hospital 3 blocks away.  At the second hospital, I was treated in the OB triage until my vomiting and diarrhea were under control.  I was hospitalized for a total of 14 hours.  We were discharged and spent the night in a hotel.  Then, we were off the next morning to continue our vacation.  (31 weeks 5 days)

06/02/99 - 1pm  Ninth prenatal appointment.  I have gained 2-3/4 lbs since my last appointment.  I have gained a total of 9-3/4 lbs.  Dr. E informed us that he is leaving on July 21.  If the baby is born after that date, Dr. B will be our ob.  We are now seriously considering a home birth if we go past July 21.  (32 weeks 2 days)

06/16/99 - 1:15pm  Tenth prenatal appointment.  I have lost another pound.  I have gained a total of 8-3/4 lbs now.  Dr. E doesn't seem concerned.  He again mentioned "doing something to get labor started" around 38 or 39 weeks so he can deliver.  I really hope I go early on my own because I refuse to be induced for "convenience".  (34 weeks 2 days)

06/22/99 - 12:20am  We spent 1-1/2 hours in the early labor lounge at the hospital.  I thought I was leaking amniotic fluid.  It was just alot of mucus.  But, I am dilated 2-3 cm, 50% effaced and -1 station.  Dr. B wants me on partial bedrest until I am 36 weeks.  (35 weeks 1 day)

06/30/99 - 1:30pm  Eleventh prenatal appointment.  I have gained 5 more pounds.  I have gained a total of 13 lbs.  The nurse said alot of it is probably due to swelling.  My ankles and hands are pretty puffy right now.  We told Dr. E that we didn't want to do anything to bring on labor.  He understood.  He said that with my measurements last week, I probably won't make it to July 26.  (36 weeks 2 days)

07/8/99 - 1pm  Twelfth prenatal appointment.  I have lost 3 lbs. since my last appointment.  That makes a 10 lb. total weight gain for the pregnancy.  Dr. B said that Dr. E would want to strip my membranes at my next appointment.  We told her that we were not going to do that.  Why is everyone in such a hurry to get this baby out before it's time?  This appointment confirmed that I do not want her to deliver my baby.  (37 weeks 3 days)

07/14/99 - 1:15pm  Thirteenth prenatal appointment.  I have gained 3 lbs this week.  That makes a total of 13 lbs for the pregnancy.  Dr. E told us that Dr. K will be taking his place.  So, either Dr. K or Dr. B will deliver if I go past July 21.  I am definitely 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced now.  (38 weeks 2 days)

07/18/99 - 5:24am  Keiran Alexander born!!  He weighed 7 lbs 1-3/4 oz and was 20" long.  Please visit Keiran's webpage to read all about his birth.  (38 weeks 6 days)

BABY NAMES

The girl's name we have chosen is Tiana Lynne.  We chose this because my name is Tina and Daryl's middle name is Lynn.  We added an extra letter to each and we got Tiana Lynne. It took us awhile to choose a boy's name.  Daryl refuses to believe we're having another boy, so he really won't get serious about choosing a name.  But, he did the same thing with Bailey and he has to live with the name I chose!!  The name we've chosen is Keiran Alexandar.  We both like Keiran.  My mom's name is Karen and she doesn't have any grandkids named after her yet.  We both like Alexander and feel it is a very strong name.
