2,000 verses (updated)
Many scholars and Bible students believe the rapture is pictured in Revelation 4:1
where John heard a voice that said, "Come up here" (NIV). Also, the church is
not mentioned again in Revelation after chapter 3.
I was told last night that if you count back exactly 2,000 verses, beginning with the last
verse in Revelation chapter 3, you land exactly on the rapture verse of 1 Corinthians
15:51, which says, "Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will
all be changed."
Is that amazing, or what? Verse 52 completes the thought with, "...in a flash, in the
twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be
raised imperishable, and we will be changed."
I have not personally verified this but I am told it has been repeatedly checked and
verified by 2-3 people.
It seems unlikely that this can be mere coincidence. Is this another hint at the
significance of two millennial days (2,000 years) from Jesus' birth, or the year 2,000?
Judge for yourself, but it seems astonishing to me.
Some argue that man inserted the chapters and verses and thus cannot be viewed as
inspired. Certainly they cannot be viewed the same as the content of the Word, but is God
sovereign? Does He watch over His Word? I suspect He had a strong, sovereign hand in the
making of chapters and verses. This may be one of many indications.
UPDATE
ADDED LATER. A friend pointed out that verse actually 52 completes the thought expressed in rapture verse 51. If verse 51 is the 2,000th verse from the rapture verse in Revelation 4:1, then verse 52 is verse number 1,999. This gives us 1999-2000! Interestingly, the current Jewish year 5760, which for previously stated reasons seems so significant, overlaps 1999 and 2000 on the modern calendar.
