"A life for a life"?

Dear friends:

A shuddering thought and question hit me today: Will God impose His Law on the United States of America and require a “life for a life” for the 40 million or so murdered unborn babies? No doubt, their blood has been crying out from the ground for justice.

This is the Law: “Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot” (Deuteronomy 19:21, NIV). Those who want everyone to be “Torah observant” today ignore such harshness of the Law, but Paul says “CURSED is everyone who does not continue to do EVERYTHING written in the Book of the Law” (Galatians 3:10). You can't pick and choose. It’s either all or none.

Paul also says in 1 Timothy 1:8-10, “We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers.”

Did he say murderers? That happens to be our subject.

But, ah, there is mercy and grace, thank God. In Galatians 3, the Holy Spirit refers to the Law as a curse, but a curse not applicable to those redeemed by the blood of Christ: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us…” (3:13). Yes, I presume on grace! Totally! I stake my life on it. Without it, I am dead meat, now and in eternity. In my flesh dwelleth no good thing (Romans 7:18).  (Grace is not a license to sin.  I don't need a license to do that!)

For those outside of Christ and under the curse of the Law, the prospect is absolutely frightening. It is very possible that God will, indeed, exact a “life for a life” for every single one of those babies. This national sin is different from others in that it is officially sanctioned by the government, and thus identified with the government. And Americans have continued to elect pro-abortion politicians.

The number 40 million dead seems horrendous. I was reminded of this when I found a 1997 article I wrote about bio-terrorism. Here is an excerpt:

Today I discovered an ominous article in a Christian newsletter, "The Excel," by Del Brock. An American microbiologist, Larry Harris, met an Iraqi woman who, after they became good friends, divulged to him Iraq's plan to wage a biological attack against "the Great Satan" (America). The conversation took place in 1993.

"When do you think the attacks will begin?" Larry asked her.

She responded, "Sometime in the next few years. The attacks are centered on three Muslim holy days that come up in 1997, the next in 1999, then the next in 2001. One thing is for certain, before the year 2002 the population of the United States will be reduced to less than 50 million." (NOTE: They may have adjusted their plans, but it may have begun.)

She unveiled to him that the strike would take place systematically in 100 locations in the U.S., and after the release of the biological agents Anthrax and Bubonic Plaque people would begin to die in the hundreds of thousands, crippling our entire nation. After this would be waves of attacks against our energy resources.

This article was accompanied by a picture of a captured spray unit used for military grade biological agents, which was seized in a raid in February, 1997. Perhaps a 1997 attack has been averted, but perhaps not…. (It obviously was, but for how long? The 2001 date is interesting. JB.)

(The Iraqi woman) told of women who had been trained to smuggle ampoules of anthrax and bubonic plague into the States inside their body cavities. I did get confirmation that seven such female terrorists were arrested in Iowa this year and were found to be carrying the bacteria inside themselves in ampoules...

These women and associates were to build breeder labs from readily available brewing equipment and were to make 4.5 gallons of the deadly bacterial soup in preparation for the day of the attack on America. When this day (reportedly 27 July 1997 is the first date) comes they are to release the bacteria through their car exhausts and from small single-engined aircraft through venturi tubes. They were to do this in all the major cities and near various military bases.... (and by the way, the recent Defcon 4 alert at NORAD could well have been justified if a biological attack were threatened; as bacterial “bombs” are hugely more deadly and effective than any nuclear device).

Each ampoule could kill between 200,000 and 400,000 people in the initial stages of contamination over a period of about 10-14 days. Once the symptoms show, there is no cure. It is 100% fatal.

The microbiologist mentioned, Larry Harris, is maligned by the media and government, which never wanted to admit that his warnings were valid, but as far as I can tell he is just a harmless, sincere zealot who was just trying to alert the public. I spoke with him in 1997 but lost touch.

By the way, the horror of such a judgment on the nation is another argument for the rapture. The magnitude is such that those redeemed from the curse of the Law will probably be removed before the hammer of the Law comes down on the nation.

Or will God continue to indefinitely extend His patience and mercy? I do not know the answer. But things seem to be coming to a climax. It certainly would be a good idea to "Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).
