Tying it all together

"Tying It All Together"

With all that has happened in the last two weeks, many people are having to reassess their world paradigm. Within the Christian community, in particular, many have been wondering how close the Church is coming to the end-time scenario prophesied in scripture.

This column is an attempt to identify factually world events, trends, enabling technologies, etc., which may have a bearing on those prophecies and to intelligently speculate on prophesied factors yet to come. I urge you to review the books of the Bible, particularly Matthew 24, Revelation 13 and Daniel, among others, and then compare them with what follows. Decide for yourself what the truth is.

Globalization
World financial markets are increasingly inter-related. Global governance is being pushed hard by the U.N. The Internet is growing explosively. Currency unifications are in process – the Euro, e-money. Weights and measures becoming unified under the metric system. Trade and tariff agreements – GATT, NAFTA. Global environmental, energy and land-control efforts well underway. Brazen attempts to disarm citizens in various nations around the planet. The World Bank, the World Health Organization, the World Council Of Churches. The push toward Gaia – a world religion.

Technology
Necessary to implement the scenarios described in Revelation. Nuclear capabilities on all sides. Knowledge increase per Daniel 12:4. Very fast computers. Bio-chip implants are now being tested. Bio-metric devices which assess the eye's retinal patterns, speech and fingerprints are already in the marketplace.

Israel
Strong internal forces pushing to rebuild the temple. Accelerating friction with Arab neighbors. Destabilizing trends in Russia and China combined with their known assistance of Israel's enemies. Natural resources in Israel attracting the greed of its Arab neighbors and the Palestinians.

Fulfillment of prophecy
The nation restored per Ezekiel 36 and 37. The signs Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24: wars; famines; people's love growing cold; earthquakes; false prophets; God's Word already preached to most areas of the world; persecution of Christians increasing worldwide. Yet, scripture also makes it clear that certain things remain to happen before Messiah returns. What follows is what I would label as informed speculation.

Catalyst
Some scenario will be necessary to cause the entire world to accept a world leader. Very possibly, what we witnessed last week will help set the stage in getting people to think in that direction and enabling political power grabs "to protect us from such things in the future." Already there is talk of curtailing some constitutional protections. Another possibility here is economic collapse. There are many today who feel that the world's inter-related economies are a house of cards waiting to crash. Should that happen, what better excuse would be needed to justify completely unifying all world currencies and controlling all economic activity? Markets hate uncertainty and instability. We are about to realize uncertainty and instability in spades in the coming months and years if what President Bush has said is accurate. I also wonder about all of the UFO news we are hearing on an increasing basis – could some manifestation of that be used to justify global government? That's a pretty wild one, admittedly, but, still, I have to wonder why the noise on this is getting stronger, rather than diminishing.

The third temple
My personal speculation is that the Ark Of The Covenant will be unearthed. I cannot conceive of anything else powerful enough to cause the Israeli government to allow such a provocative thing as the rebuilding of the temple to occur. If the Ark were located, the Israeli government would have NO CHOICE but to build the temple as the Ark would require a holy place to reside. It is my belief that Israel's government knows or suspects where the Ark currently is hidden because of its refusal to allow exploration of two potentially key sites where archeologists have long sought permission to explore.

Another factor that might contribute to this is ongoing efforts to locate Noah's Ark. It would be instructive to watch scientists and atheists tripping all over their tongues to explain-away how a 6,000-year-old version of a Princess Cruises luxury liner ended-up on the top of an ice-covered mountain.

The world leader
The anti-Christ/beast spoken of by Daniel, Jesus and John. People have speculated on Henry Kissinger, the Pope, Maurice Strong and others over recent years. Nobody except God knows … yet. Does all of this mean that I think doom is imminent? No. As described above, certain things yet remain to happen. I will not be renting a porta-potty and parking myself on the roof to watch for the appearance of Jesus in the sky. That said, however, I am cognizant that many of the signs found in the Bible are upon us and others are quickly falling into place.

If any of this resonates with you, I would encourage you to read the Gospel of John and learn why God wants to have a relationship with you and give Him a chance to explain His side of things. Isn't that what open-minded, intelligent, enlightened people ought to do?

I am the way, the truth, and the life – no one comes to the Father, but through Me. (John 14:6, Jesus Christ)

Who among our parents ever imagined they would see men land on the moon, computers that you can hold in your hand, genetic manipulation, cures for diseases like polio and the fall of the Berlin Wall? We live in truly amazing, wondrous times.

But, who among us, except maybe Tom Clancy and former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, ever imagined the devastation we witnessed last week? In a matter of seconds, two of the most majestic monuments to mankind's ingenuity were thrown to the ground. In a matter of seconds, thousands of people died horrific deaths.

For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, they were marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away – so shall the coming of the Son of Man be. (Matthew 24:37-39, Jesus Christ)

As one of my pastors has said, "We do not know the day or the hour in which the Messiah will return, but we do know the season." Believers and non-believers alike, know this: We are in that season.
