My Mother's sister (Joanna Garrett) wrote the following words below...
Aunt Joanna mentions about Warren Stanley (My Fathers Brother) , about Warren having a Crystal set, and I remember my precious Father telling me about how he and his brother made a radio from the Crystal set.

~~ I REMEMBER WHEN ~~
I wasn't allowed to wear gym uniforms, ugly or not, I was so good at sports, but wasn't allowed to participate because I wasn't allowed to wear gym suits. That wasn't fair!!!
We didn't have a TV to warm up, We didn't even have a radio, We didn't even have a Crystal set like Warren Stanley, Now that was technology!!
Mom was off papering when I got home from school, She was rarely home till dark, I had never heard of a purebred dog,
None of us got any allowance, We were lucky to have a nickle for an ice cream cone,
I would have climbed a mountain for a penny, I still pick up pennies.
Mom didn't wear nylons, She had cotton hose, We all did, They were ugly. So were my shoes.
It was possiable for teachers to wear heels to work, back then.
Today they're lucky to be standing at the end of the day, Teaching today is strenuous and exhausting.
When we didn't even have a car, We went to town in an old milk wagon drawn by a field horse. We had piles of blankets in the back so we could go to sleep on the way home from church.
J. When mom made her own laundry soap from bacon fat and lye.
K. I'd never seen the inside of a restaurant.
I could go on and on, I think sometimes I've lived too long, Kids who grew up in the Great Depression were grateful for things Kids today would throw away, We ate what was put in front of us, I think I was alway's hungry, We wore hand-me-down clothes, We made do with what ever we had. We did not have to be entertained either, Toys were rare and nobody was careless with possessions. We found way's to have fun that was created and cost nothing, We behaved in school and was easily enbarrassed,
I have never regretted growing up deprived of luxuries, It was a good way to grow up in so many ways. My generation has survivl skills that we learned the hard way. After All< as Brokaw says, We're the Greatest Generation.
Those were the good old days!!!
Thank goodness their history!!!
