Bought this car in 2001. After my first car (1992 Pontiac Grand Prix LE) was wrote off in an accident, I began looking around for another car, preferbly another Grand Prix. We found a 1992 Grand Prix in Toronto, virtually IDENTICAL to my old one, except this one had more Features, and we went to look at it. The Dealer did not show up. We waited over an hour, and even though he SAID he was going to be there, he was not. AND, he was not answering his Cell Phone.
I was glancing through the BuySellZone, at www.buysellzone.com. It is a Ontario, Canada site. It is free to advertise on, you just have to pay for the magizine when it comes out, unless you see the ad's on the INTERNET. I saw this car (NO Picture, just a short description) and called about it. The seller was only around 15 minuites from my house, and he told me he was asking $4500 for the car. I asked him if he would take $4000, and he said yes. I went over to look at it, and was VERY impressed. It litterly, had EVERY option General Motors put into Pontiac's at the time. Sunroof, Leather, everything. And, everything worked.
The seller, said that he would definatley accept $4000 and that at that price, the car came Certified and Emissions Passed. (An Emission's Test is required here).
I accepted his offer, and gave him a deposit cheque, though he said it was not necessary, I did anyways, I did not want this car getting away from me. This was a Sunday (I *think*) and he said he would get the car Certified, and Emission Passed on Monday, and I could pick it up on Tuesday, which was great, because the Rental we had (2002 Pontiac Sunfire) had to go back Tuesday.
He called the next day, with bad news. The car failed the saftey check...BADLY...The mechanic gave him an about $1000 estimate for all repairs. PLUS, it would probably cose EVEN MORE for the car to pass the Emission Test.
The seller called me with this news, and I offered him #3000 for the car. He accepted.
I picked the car up, Tuesday (I *think*) and we took the rental back.
All in all, it took around #!000 or so, to do everything required for BOTH the Saftey, AND Emission Test, so we came out ahead. It helps having Mechainc Inclined people at your disposal...;-)
