Family Reunion

There had been a strange, bright light and a feeling of forgetfulness and of calm. There was lethargy and then came sleep. Oh, blessed sleep! He slept without dreaming.

When he woke, she was beside him, watching. "Hello, my love." The thought that there was something...wrong with this never occurred to him.

He was not surprised when she was comfortable with all these modern things as they washed up. It did not occur to him to think it. And when his stomach growled, he let her lead him away from the bed and the bath; all this time, there was nothing in his mind to say, "Why is she here? Why am I here?" Before, he would have asked these things.

The smell of breakfast was in the air. He stopped short of the kitchen table, already set and occupied. He saw them and thought, "Family." Rachel and Richie sat at the table, drinking orange juice and smiling at him. Tessa was occupied with a frying pan.

She guided him to a chair and sat down beside him. "I love you," she whispered in Connor’s ear.

"I love you, too, my bonny Heather."
