FANS TO SELECT THE NAME OF A NEW POP BAND
TEEN PEOPLE Online Hosts Exclusive "Name the Band Contest"
NEW YORK (July 17, 2000) -- Three cast members from the hit ABC television series Making The Band -- Bryan Chan, Ikaika Kahoano and Mike Miller -- have teamed up with Matt Morrison, former cast member of Broadway's Footloose, to form a new pop group. The quartet is enlisting its fans to help determine the group's name.
TEEN PEOPLE Online (found exclusively on AOL Keyword: TEEN PEOPLE) will host an exclusive contest where fans can select the name of this new group. Beginning today, teens can go to TEEN PEOPLE Online and view the first exclusive photo of the guys and listen to a sound-clip of their first song. Teens will then be encouraged to come up with what they think would be a cool name for the group. The winner who selects the new name of the band will receive a private backyard concert in their hometown.
"Coming up with a name has been one of the hardest parts of putting this group together," said Bryan Chan. "The name needs to reflect the personality of its members, represent the style of music that is being sung, and possess a unique quality that makes it stick in people's heads. When Teen People Online said they wanted to partner with us to run this promotion we were really excited. It gives our fans the chance to participate in putting our group together."
Chan, Kahoano and Miller were chosen from over 1800 hopefuls to be a part of the reality based series Making The Band which chronicled the creation of a pop group. Kahoano was selected to be a part of the final group, O-Town, but opted to leave the band. After the three teamed up in New York City to create this new act, they were introduced to Morrison through a mutual friend.
The group is currently in the studio recording songs for an upcoming album, with a major label deal to be announced soon. Ikaika Kahoano, 22, hails from Honolulu, Hawaii. Mike Miller, 20, is originally from Hackensack, New Jersey. Bryan Chan, 25, is from Santa Barbara, California, and Matt Morrison, 21, comes from Orange County, California.
