Chapter 14

AJ, Howie and Caitlin walked out to see me stilling sitting at officer Davis' desk. They walked up to me, but didn't say anything. I guess they were waiting for me to say something, so I did.

"Officer Davis gave me this," I said pulling the paper out of my pocket and handing it to Caitlin. She opened it and began to read it. I heard her gasp when she realized that it was from Nick. AJ and Howie looked at her and then at me.

"What is it?" Howie asked.

"It's a note from Nick," I answered, AJ and Howie's jaws dropped, "it was on Tailor when he was arrested. It was ripped, but she put it together and made a copy for us. We aren't supposed to tell anyone."

"It says two weeks, Nick's alive," Caitlin said looking up from the note.

"What?" AJ said taking the note from Caitlin and began to read it. "Are they looking for him?" I shook my head to tell him no.

"They know he's alive!" Caitlin pointed out.

"Yeah, but they don't know where Talior went. They have to find that out so that they can go see if Nick is still there," I said softly.

"Is that what they are doing now?" Howie asked.

"Yeah," I answered, "Officer Davis came out once after she gave me the letter to tell me that she is trying her hardest to find a way to make Tailor spill. As soon as he does, she said we'd be the first to know."

"Can we go home soon?" Caitlin asked, "I'm really tired."

"Yeah so am I," I told her, after all, I had spent most of my enegry looking for Nick earlier, "I'm going to leave a note on her desk that we went back to the hotel."

"Alright," Howie said finally getting his chance to read the letter. I sat at her desk and took a post it note. I wrote down which rooms were we in and the numbers to contact us and then I stuck it to the screen of the computer.

We were finally heading back to get some sleep. You could see that the four of us were really tired. Howie, AJ and I really killed ourselves looking for Nick. I think sleep was something that we desirved at this point. We headed out to my car and then we were off. The trip to the hotel seemed a lot longer this time, which was probably because we were all so tired.

Finally we pulled up to the hotel and I stopped the car. We all got out and headed straight to our rooms. No good-nights, nothing. When I got to my room, Leigh was already asleep. I smiled at her and layed on the couch so that I wouldn't wake her. Instantly, I was sleeping.

I slept the night completely through, it was the first time that I had gotten a decent nights sleep sine Nick had gone missing. Slowly I sat up and I rubbed the back of my neck. I was pretty sore for some reason. Probably because I had been laying on the couch where movement was restricted. I looked over and saw that Leigh was already awake, not that I was expecting her to still be asleep.

I wasn't sure what I should do now. My body ached and I was still so tired. I looked around again to where Leigh was, probably in the bathroom I figured. Not knowing what else to do, I stood up from the couch maybe if I walked around I would feel better. As I started to walk around the room, I remembered the letter. My hand went instantly to my pocket and I pulled it out and looked over it again.

After reading it, I left my room and walked over to Kevin's, I wanted him to know about the letter. I knocked on his door and wanted for him to answer. When he opened the door, he looked at me but didn't say anything. Oh yeah, he was probably still mad about last night, better apologise about that.

"Kev, first of all I'm sorry about what me and the guys did last night, we just thought that it should have been done in the first place and were just didn't want to see Nick hurt," I began, and he said nothing, "I also want you to look at this."

He looked at the piece of paper in my hand, but didn't take it. I wanted him to read it and so I took his hand and gave him the note. Still, he didn't say anything, but he opened the note. I watched as his eyes read through the words. When he finished, he looked at me.

"Where did you get this?"

"Officer Davis gave it to me," I answered.

"Isn't the officer on the case Hudson?" he asked. Damn, no one told him about that, I guess it was up to me.

"Not any more, " I began with a lack of anything better to start off with, "his name really wasn't Hudson. It was Adam Tailor and he's wanted for attempted murder in New York City."

"You've got to be kidding me! How the hell could that have happened?" he yelled.

"The police aren't really sure. They said he just showed up one day with I guess a recommendation from someone important and they hired him."

"What about Nick? Do they know if he's okay?" he asked even more worried.

"They don't know. They found the letter on Hudson or should I say Tailor when they arrested him last night. She didn't exactly say it, but I think she was hinting around that Nick might still be alive considering that he had the note last night. I think that he might have just come from seeing Nick and caught him writing it," I confessed.

"Do they know where he went?"

"No. No one does. He wouldn't take Caitlin and I with him. He said it might be to gruesome," I answered.

"I think we should start putting together a memorial," Kevin said, shocking the hell out of me.

"What? They fond the note, he might be alright. Don't you think so?" I asked trying to convince him that Nick wasn't dead.

"When you and Caitlin went to where he phone was found did he not say that it might have been planted?" he asked me seriously.

"Yeah, but..."

"When he went out 'looking' for Nick last night, you just told me that he said it might be gruesome, don't you think that meant that he was going to kill him," he said serously again.

"No because when he came back he said there was nothing. If he had killed him, he would have told us he found the body you know?"

"Bri, come on. You know as well as I do that the chances of that are slim. He probably said that to watch you guys suffer. You guys obviously were," he told me, "he was probably enjoying it."

"I don't think he's dead. Don't you think he was enjoying watching Nick suffer? He's alive, he has to be," I said beginning to become angry with Kevin. I just looked at him he didn't know if he was dead or night so he had to right in telling me this.

"Brian, you have to look at this realisiticly," he said.

"And how's that?" I yelled, "you're right and I'm wrong? I should give up on Nick all together and forget about helping him? I can't do that Kev and you know it!"

"This isn't like every other time," he said, "you can't help this time. Before you could walk up to Nick and talk to him, but you can't do that now Brian! He's gone and as much as it hurts, it's true and I know that!" He handed the note back to me and I just turned away from his room and stormed down the hallway, I wasn't going to accept that Nick was gone.
