Chapter 3

~*~*~*~Three years later*~*~*~*~*
Nick walked up to Nicoles door step and rang the bell. It had been what had felt like forever since the last time he had seen Nicole. He and the other guys had gotten a record deal the summer before and they had been away in Europe making the album and they had achieved major success over seas, but they just didn't quite hit here.
Nick was beginning to think that Nicole wasn't home. No one was answering so he rang the bell one more time in hopes that she was coming. He really wanted to see her. He missed her. Over the year that he hadn't seen her, he realized that he had fallen in love with her.
It wasn't the kind of childish love that most teens felt. It was much more than that. This kind of love, was the kind of love that made you want to get up in the morning and sing for no reason. This was the kind of love that made you want to smile at the simple thought of that person.
Just as Nick was about to give up, the door opened. "Nick?" Nicole said shocked. She hadn't seen him in forever and she was totally amazed that he was standing on her doorstep.
"Yeah," he said, she was more beautiful then he remembered.
"Oh my god!! It's been like forever since I saw you last!"
"Tell me about!" Nick said and hugged Nicole.
        "How have you been?"
"Great, a lot has happened in this year."
"Come on in and tell me about it," Nicole and Nick had become best friends after they had met. Nick was the sweetest guy that she had ever met. He was always being really nice to her and she was always willing to listen to him whenever something went wrong. They took a seat on the couch.
"Well, you know how we got the record deal and everything, well we went to Europe to record the album. It was a huge success, and we've been there since. We were doing huge sell out concerts, tv appereances, and eveything."
"Wow, now I'm surprised you even remembered me!"
"How could I forget you? You're my best friend and one of the only people I can talk to when I have a problem. You mean a lot to me." Nicole smiled at what he said.
         "Thanks."
"Yeah, I want to ask you something."
         "Sure what?"
"Ummm... I was wondering, if you aren't doing anything tonight, if me and you could.... ummm..."
"Are you asking me on a date?" Nicole said smiling.
         "Yeah, I guess I am."
         "Well..." Nicole said smiling, "sure."
"Great, so I'll see you tonight at 8:00."
         "Yeah, see you then."
         "Ok, c-ya."
~*~*~*~7:50*~*~*~*~
Nicole walked down the stairs to her livingroom where her mother was sitting on the couch watching tv. She looked up at Nicole a little confussed.
"Mom, what are you doing home so early?" Nicole asked, her mother usually worked until 10 and it wasn't even 8 yet.
"The boss let me off early. And where are we going tonight?" her mom asked noticing that Nicole wasn't wearing her usual bum around the house clothes.
"Nick asked me out on a date," she said smiling at her mother.
"Oh really? Where are you two going?" her mom asked.
         "I don't know, he didn't say."
"Too caught up in the fact that he was asking you out to worry about where you were going?"
         "Yeah I guess."
"I trust you and I trust him, so go and have fun."
"Actually mom, I was waiting for him to come pick me up. I was just coming down here to leave a note just incase."
"See, thats why I trust you, you are always doing the right thing. You know what, you look so pretty," her mom said.
         "Mom!" Nicole wined!
"Sorry, but you do." Just as Nicole was going to say something, the doorbell rang.
"Thats gotta be Nick," Nicole said.
         "Ohhhhh," her mom said.
"Mom...." Nicole said walking over to the door. She opened it after taking one final deep breath and there stood Nick.
"Hi," he said smiling at her.
"Hi, lets go before my mom plays twenty questions," Nicole said.
"What was that Nicole?" her mom said over hearing her comment.
"Nothing mom!" Nicole said and walked out the door with Nick.
         "You look nice."
"Thanks, so where are we going?"
"Well, I was thinking that since I haven't been here for a while we would go to my favorite place and see how its changed."
"Where would that be?" Nicole asked.
"There is a beach about ten minutes from here. Thats it."
         "Sounds nice."
         "I figured it would."
~*~*~*~*10 minutes later~*~*~*~*~
"Here it is," Nick said smiling at the site, "it hasn't changed."
         "It's nice," Nicole said smiling.
"Yeah, I know I love it here."
"Most guys would think coming to a place like this is just the slightest bit cheesey."
"Yeah well, but I guess I'm not most guys."
"No, you're not and thats what I like about you."
"At least one girl likes that about me. Most girls want most guys."
"Yeah, but I'm not most girls."
"So, let me get this straight," Nick said smiling this goofy smile.
"Ok," she said returning his goofy smile.
"I'm not most guys and your not most girls...."
         "Yeah."
"So whats that make us?" Nick asked confussed.
"A couple that isn't like most others."
         "Yeah, that works."
         "Of course it does."
"I've never met anyone like you before." Nick suddenly said.
"And you'll never meet anyone like me again. I am a one of a kind."
"So I guess I'm pretty lucky huh."
"You better believe it." Nick looked at her. He wanted so bad to kiss her, but he was afraid to. She made him a little nervious, so he decided to sit in the sand. Nicole walked over to where he sat and sat next to him.
"I just hope I don't get sand up my butt," Nicole joked. Nick laughed, she was a little too open with him and he was a bit intimidated by it.
         "Yeah."
"So how has life been treating you?" Nicole asked.
"Alright. We're doing pretty well over in Europe you know. Our albums doing great. We have tons of fans, but on the other hand, we can't go out with out a body guard. Over there, we have no privacy, and people show up at our hotel rooms, but its all worth it. I like coming back here and being normal, at least for a little while anyway."
"Wow, I'm still in high school," Nicole laughed, "nothing to eventful about that. Just go to class and do what your told."
"Yeah, but if you think about it, you're really lucky."
         "Why do you say that?"
"Think about it, I'm not going to go to highschool. I am not going to have the memories that you are going to have. I'm not going to go to the prom, I'm not going to do anything."
"But on the other hand, you could be like me, and not have many friends."
         "Why don't you have friends?"
"I'm 'different' Nick. Kids don't like the people that they think are different from them. I like to be unique, I like to be an individual, and most people don't like that."
         "I like that."
"Thats because you know what its like to be different."
"Yeah, but not because of that."
         "Then why Nick?"
"Because there is something about you that I have never seen in any other girl. There is something about who you are that seperates you from every one else. What that is, is the fact that you express yourself. You let people know what you feel and what you think, no matter what. I've never met anyone like that considering that everyone wants to be 'normal' they want to be just like everyone else. You don't, I really like that." Nicole looked at him, in the time that she had known him, she never realized that, thats how he felt.
         "Really?"
"Yeah." Nicole smiled, for the first time in a long time, she felt accepted. She realized how lucky she was to have Nick because like herself, he was a one in a million. The rest of the night went pretty quickly in their mind. They had talked about what they had been through, Nick had a lot of funny stories about what happened to him and the guys. Nicole told him about some stuff that happened in school and they just spent the whole night having fun.
"Wow!" Nicole said, "it's 12:15!! We had better get headed home."
"Yeah, we should, I was supposed to be home 15 minutes ago," Nick getting up and then helping up Nicole.
"Well your a little late." Nick smiled, and they started walking.
"I guess I am, but my mom won't mind, she knew that I was with you."
         "Like that makes a difference."
         "It does. She trusts you."
"My mom is the same way with you."
"At least we know that our parents like us."
"I already knew my mom liked me."
"Thats not what I meant and you know that."
"Yeah I know, I was kidding." After a short walk they reached Nicoles house, you could tell that neither of them wanted to end this, but if they stayed out too much longer, their parents would kill them.
"Well, tonight was a lot of fun," Nicole said.
"Yeah," Nick said, "I would love to do this again."
          "Me too."
"I'll see you tommrrow, well hang out."
"It's already tommrrow," Nicole said and smiled.
"Ok, so I'll see you later then."
"Yeah." Nick smiled. This was the part that was strange. He wanted to kiss her, but he wasn't sure if he should. He didn't want to scare he away, that he was just too afraid to.
Nicole wanted him to kiss her. She could tell that he wanted to kiss her too, but she knew him, he was too shy to, and she knew it. So Nicole walked up to Nick and placed her lips on his. Nick was a little blown away by the fact that she had just walked up and kissed him, but then again, this was Nicole, she wasn't afarid of anything.
After a few moments, Nicole pulled away looked at Nick who was smiling and slightly blushing. Nicole simled back at him knowing that, that was his first kiss.
"Well, I'll see you later," Nick said totally blown away.
          "Yeah, good night."
"Night," Nick said as Nicole went inside. After she closed the door she leand on it and smiled.
"So?" she heard a voice that startled her, it was her mother.
          "So what?"
          "How did it go?"
          "Great."
"Well, I should have known, you are smiling like a little kid in a candy store, that and your home after midnight."
          "Sorry about being so late."
"Its ok, I knew you were with a good boy, so I wasn't worried."
"Well I'm going to go to bed."
          "Ok good night."
          "Good night mom."
