Chapter 1- By: Stephanie

Things aren't always as they seem. Sometimes things my look like they're going well but in reality, things couldn't be worse. There are people out there that put on acts to hide their pasts. They act like everything it great in the world when they really have a deep problem lurking inside of them. From their past maybe or on the other hand it could just be some sick obsession. Whatever the case maybe, people tend to hide things about them that they don't want the world to know about. They do whatever they can to make sure that they kept it a secret.

Nick Carter wasn't an acception to the rule. Like everyone else he had something to hide. Something that he didn't want to share with the world. Yes, from the outside looking in, everything seemed great. He had killer looks and the career of his dreams. He was living a life that just about anyone would kill for.

Only if they knew. If they knew what went on because of this life. It wasn't the stress. He could deal with that, it was something more. More than anyone could ever expect. It was just over a year ago that Nick had fallen completely head over heels in love with a woman named Bridget. She was everything that he could ever want in a woman. Her stirking beauty and caring personality attracked him to her instantly. He'd never really believed in love at first sight before the first time that he saw Bridget.

At first, he was scared to even talk to her. He had thought that she would either only want to be with him because of the fact that the was famous, already be seeing someone or think that he wasn't good enough for her. After some pursuasion from AJ, Nick finally went over to talk to her. They hit it off right away. Also, as it turns out, she had been watching him the whole night as well, and was also afraid of approaching him.

After that night they were almost always together. It seemed like something out of a fairy tale. Soon, the relationship between Nick and Bridget had become serious. Neither of them had been in a relationship that had reached this level. It was something that they both welcomed with open arms. It was a positive change in Nicks life one, that at the time, he needed. Six months would pass and there relationship was still running strong. Until one day:

"Nickolas, who was she?" Bridget asked with her anger reaching peaks that she had never known before.

"Brige, I told you she was just a fan," Nick answered honestly, "do you really think that I would ever cheat on you? Baby I love you."

"Shut up Nick. Please, she was all over you. Do you think that I'm stupid?" she yelled.

"No I don't and I wasn't cheating. She was just some crazy fan that just got out of control alright? I swear on my life that I would never cheat on you!" he responded trying as best he could to keep his tone of voice as calm as possible.

"I gave myself to you Nick and what do you do? You go out and get it on with some damn hoochie!" she yelled as she ran into the house with Nick following quickly behind her.

"Bridget, look, nothing happened," he shouted as he remained only a few feet behind her, "you're the best thing that ever happened to me. Why would I want to fuck that up?"

"Well you did," she responded when she turned around the face him for a second..

"Please don't tell me that you're leaving," Nick pleaded.

"What? Did you expect me to hang around here? Yeah right," she snapped as she took off once again. Quickly she stormed into the master bedroom that she and Nick had shared and grabbed a bag from under the bed. Bridget ran to the closet and started pulling her things out.

"Bridget, please talk to me. Let me tell you what happened," Nick pleaded frantically as he watched her pack away her things.

"I don't need to hear some bullshit explaination," she yelled, "it's fucking over alright!"

"Come on, don't do this. Relax and let's just talk. I swear to you that she was just a fan."

"Whatever Nick."

"Why are you getting so jealious? You know that you're the only girl for me!"

"Jealious? Of what? Some two timing dirt bag? You wish. I thought you were better than that, but I guess I was wrong now wasn't I?"

"Bridget..."

"Nick just give it the fuck up. You're not going to change my mind about leaving. You hurt me," she said to him with her pain evident, "I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with you. Stupid right?"

"No, it wasn't stupid because I thought the samething," he told her honestly.

"When did you think of that? When you were fucking that other girl?" she snapped. Nick shook his head. He couldn't believe that this was happening. That girl had honestly been a fan. He never thought once about cheating on Bridget, he just couldn't seem to convince her of that.

"Good-bye Nickolas," she said when she had the last of her clothes packed into the bag. Nick looked up at her, his eyes filled with tears. He hoped that this would help her to believe him.

"Please," he whispered, "stay. Nothing happened." She stayed silent for a moment. Nick wasn't sure how to take this, but he hoped that she was considering staying. She had to know that he loved her and would never hurt her.

"Good-bye," she said again and Nick felt his heart break into a million pieces. He knew that there was no way that he was going to be able to talk her into staying so he just remained sitting on the bed until he heard her car drive away. Tears were soon falling down his cheeks. He'd lost her.

Nick thought that had to be one of the worst days in his life, but he was wrong. The worst had yet to come. There was no way that he could have prepared for what was going to happen. Anger does some amazing things to people, even the kindest of them. It can bring out the worse in people and it had the potential to hurt someone.

Nick stepped out through the back door of house house. He looked at the view of the ocean that was before him. It was the only thing that he had left to relax him. Since Bridget had left, he had lost complete control over his emotions. He had tried getting in touch with her so many times but she never wanted to speak to him. He'd left several messages for her, which he was almost positive that she deleted. He even tried going by her house once, but no one was home, or at least that's what they wanted him to think.

That's when Nick decided to go for a ride on his boat. That always helped him to relax. He took in a deep breath of the fresh ocean air as he walked towards the dock. He jumped into the boat and walked over to the ignition and turned it on. Just as he was about to pull away from the dock, the phone rang. At first he hesitated. He just wanted some time alone, but then he thought that it might be Bridget so he stepped off of the boat and started to walk towards his house.

Just as he reached the door he heard a loud explosion. He looked back to see his boat completely engulfed in flames. His eyes remained fixed upon the boat. Whoever had called him had just saved his life. Then his mind started to function again and he began to think about what might have happened. It had to have been an accident, something must have gone wrong. But that couldn't be it, he just had the boat looked at and everything was fine. There had to have been a bomb on there rigged to go off once he started the boat.

Nick remained where he was standing, comepletely overcome with shock. Someone had just attempted to murder him. He looked at the boat for a second longer before running into the house. The phone was still ringing and he grabbed it.

"Hello?" he answered his voice filled with fear.

"Nick what's wrong?" Brian asked.

"Someone just tried to kill me," he spit out quickly.

"What?"

"Someone put a bomb on my boat and if you hadn't called, I would have been on it when it went off."

"Are you serious?" Brian asked hoping that Nick was only joking with him, even though he knew that he would be angry if he was. He would much rather that he be angry at him then have to worry about that there was someone out there trying to kill him.

"Yes!!" he yelled, "I'm going to call the police." Nick hung up before Brian could say anything more and he dialed 911, with his hands shaking from the shock of what had just happened still going through him.
