Chapter 20

AJ smiled at Jen who was sleeping in the passangers seat. They hadn't reached where they were heading but they would soon be arriving.

"Jen," AJ said lightly shaking Jen as he stopped at a red light.

"Hum," she answered.

"We're almost there, so get up."

"About that..."

"About what?"

"Us getting married. I was thinking maybe we shouldn't be getting married like this. Don't get me wrong, I still want to marry you, but I just want my family there, you're family their. I want to make it special," Jen explained.

"So you want to go back?"

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I just want to make it special, you understand?"

"Yeah, I was actually thinking of that myself. It would be nice wouldn't it?"

"Yes it would."

"So you wanna wait?"

"Yeah."

"Okay, I think that's a good idea."

"Good."

*The next morning*

Jen was unusually happy this particular morning. She quickly got out of bed and went to get Anthony without any of her usual morning activities. Jen wasn't sure what had come over her, but she liked it. She was finally happy for a change. Jen pulled up to her mothers drive way and then walked up to the door and rang the bell.

"Jennifer? What are you doing here so early?" her mother asked over come with shock that she was really there.

"I came to get Anthony," she answered.

"He's sleeping, but come inside. Tell me about last night!" her mother said egarly.

"What about it?" Jen joked.

"Tell me about how he asked you to marry him, and EXACTLY what he said! Also tell me how you guys, well uh, celebrated last night," her mother said pulling her into the living room.

"He basically said that he loved me and that he never considered marring young until he started seeing me," Jen answered.

"Oh my god, did he get down on one knee?"

"Yeah he did."

"Wow," her mother said smiling, "let me see the ring."

"Is that all you're worried about?" Jen asked lifting her hand so that her mother could see.

"No, but damn that's a beautiful ring!"

"Mom!"
"What?"
"It's not about the ring! I would still marry him if he got the ring out of a 25 cent vending machine!"

"I wouldn't let you marry him then!"

"Why not?"

"Because it makes me think that he doesn't think you're worth much."

"Look, it's not about how much money value is behind the ring, it's the love it represents that means something."

"I guess," her mother said defeated.

"I'm gonna get Anthony now," Jen said.

"No, no, no, you have to tell me how you guys celebrated your engagement!"

"We didn't."

"Then why did you have me watch Anthony?"

"Because," Jen said talking a deep breath, preparing for the worst, "we went to get married."

"What!" her mom yelled.

"But we didn't because we thought it would be better if our families were there."

"I can't believe you even considered, wait, you know what? I'm not going to get mad because you can do what you want and you know better."

"Mom, we didn't get married because I wanted you there. I wanted a big celebration. Don't worry about me," Jen said walking to the stairs. She picked up Anthony and grabbed his bag of stuff that she had brought with him the night before. Her mom looked at her as she walked down the stairs and back into the living room.

"So what's the latest on Nick?" her mother asked aware of what had happened. Not only from Jen, but it was all over the news.

"Last I heard, he was in a coma. He's not really a major concern of mine," Jen told her mother.

"I figured as much."

"Well, I'm gonna go now," Jen said.

"Okay hon, I'll see you later."

"Bye mom," Jen said walking out the front door.

"Bye," her mom said as Jen walked out of the door.
