Chapter 14 The background check hadn't been delievered to Brian before he and Nicks shifts had ended so they would have to wait until the morning before they had the results. Nick tapped his fingers against the steering wheel as he made his commute home. All he wanted to do was spend time with Angela. To know that she was okay. With everything going on, Nick was more than a little nervous for Angela's safety. After dropping Brian off, Nick just wanted to get home as quickly as he could. Nick pulled into the driveway and turned off the ignition then proceded to pull out the keys. Nick sighed to himself as he got out of the car. Part of him was glad that the bosses has let a rookie like him take such a major case. While on the other hand, there was another part yelling at him. Allowing him to wonder if this had been such a good idea. He didn't have any experience in this sort of thing. True, you can only gain experience by doing but this was too much too fast. "Angela," Nick called as he walked into the house. When he recieved no answer, a look of confussion spread across her face. It was way to early for Angela to be asleep and she would have called to let him know that she was going some place instead of just leaving. Nick walked further into the house before calling her name again. "Angela?" He made his way towards their bedroom, assuming that she had infact fallen asleep. "Ang, baby it's too early to...." he started, his voice trailing off when he looked into his bedroom. Someone else had been in there other than Angela. The room was a complete wreck. A window had been broken into, the glass lay scattered all over the floor. Nick froze when he spotted a piece of paper lying on their bed. Before he even picked it up he knew what it was. This son of a bitch had broken into his house and kidnapped Angela. Nick took a deep breath before picking up the note. Things have taken an interesting turn It's enough to make your heart burn What happens next is up to you You decide if she lives or dies Now the REAL game has begun. Nick dropped the letter while an intense anger coursed through his entire body. This guy, who ever he was, had crossed the line and made this a personal battle. A battle that Nick wasn't about to lose. Taking deep breaths to calm himself, he knew that he had to call Brian before allowing himself to do something drastic. "Hello?" Brian answered. "Brian, this is Nick," Nick replied, showing no attempt to hide the emotions in his voice. "What's wrong?" he questioned, immediately picking up on Nicks' tone of voice. "That fucking son of a bitch broke into my fucking house and kidnapped my girlfriend!!" Nick shouted, he didn't care how he sounded, he was angry. As soon as he got his hands on this guy, he would make him regret ever crossing Nick Carter. "The rapist?" Brian asked, already knowing the answer. "I'll be right over Nick." "Hurry up," Nick replied sternly as he slammed the phone down. Nick rushed out of the bedroom, not wanting to tamper with the site any more than he already had and began a nervous pace in the living room. It only took Brian a few moments to arrive at Nicks house and come right in the front door. "What happened?" Brian asked as he caught a glimpse of Nick standing in the living room. "I've got no fucking clue," Nick snapped. "He fucking broke the window in our bedroom. That's probably how he got her out since the front door was still locked and everything," Nick took a deep breath hoping to calm himself to he could relay the details to Brian. "There appeared to have been a struggle because the room is a mess." "Where's the room?" Brian asked. "Right down there," Nick answered as he gestured down the hallway. Brian headed in that direction with Nick following closely behind. "We must be getting close," Brian thought aloud. "Close to what?" Nick mumbled, not thinking clearly any more. "Finding out who this guy is. We've got to be on his trail otherwise he wouldn't have done this," Brian explained as he bent over to pick up the piece of paper that Nick had dropped. "This the note?" "Yeah," Nick stated. "I swear to god when I get my hands on the son of the bitch that did this... I'm going to fucking kill him, especially if Angela is hurt. It'll fucking kill him six times," Nick shouted out of rage. "Nick, I'm taking you off of this case," Brian stated seriously. "What?? No, I don't think so. This bastard has my girlfriend." "You're off the case. Take a few days off." "You can't do that!" "I can and I just did," Brian informed him. "Why do you have to do this shit to me!?" Nick yelled. "Because you're personally involved now. You can't work on a case that you're involved with. You know that Nick," Brian said calmly. "I'm going to take care of everything. I'm going to go down to the station now and have that background check rushed to my office. We're going to get this guy before he hurts Angela." "I sure as hell hope so," Nick replied. "Just relax, alright?" Brian said, sencing the anger still present in Nicks voice. "You trust me don't you?" Brian questioned, causing Nick to look at him in wonder. "Yeah," he answered calmly. "I do trust you." "Then you've got nothing to worry about." Nick watched as Brian started to walk around his house for clues. It felt odd to watch Brian do this. He'd been right there next to him the two times that they had done this on this case already but he wasn't a victim. He wasn't hoping that the police would find something to find the woman he loved, until now. Now the only thing he could do was stand there and watch Brian do his job. "The only room that things were out of place was the bedroom. I took a look around before you got here," Nick offered. Brian nodded at Nick and walked towards the bedroom again. Nick remained close to Brian as he made his way around the room taking note of the things he saw. "So what do you think?" "It's the same guy," Brian answered softly. Nick massaged his temples after Brians words. He knew what happened to the other women that had fallen victim to this sicko. They both ended up dead. "We've got to find her Brian before this son of a bitch can do anything to her," Nick said. "Nick, I told you that you're off this case. There's too much personal involvement. I'll call my cousin and we'll take care of this but you just have to relax and stay here, alright?" Nick shut his eyes and brought his hands together in front of him. "You're going to bring Angela back safe, right?" "I'm going to do everything that I can, but I can't promise you anything, you know that," Brian replied. "Just stay here. I'm going to go to the station. Kevin probably hasn't left yet. We might get something." Chapter 15 |
