Backstreet Boys Anxious To Tour, Kick Off Club Run In Marc
Date: Feb 28, 2005 Source: MTV News Group will warm up its act in intimate venues before major tour starting in July. Backstreet Boys may have yet to decide what the first single from their first album in five years is going to be - or what the album is going to be called, for that matter - but they do have one thing figured out: They're going to hit the road. "It's just like, 'God, I wanna get on the road again!'" singer A.J. McLean told MTV News earlier this month. The reunited boy band is planning to warm up its act via a club tour that will kick off next month. While final dates are still being determined, some initial ones have been announced, including the first show in New York, on March 21. The tour dates come just in time to support the Boys' first single - a toss-up between "Incomplete," "I Still" and "Weird World" - which will be released to radio in mid-March . Then, before the album is released in July, the Backstreet Boys plan to head out on the road again, for a major tour starting on Fourth of July weekend. Backstreet Boys Are Back In Actio
Date: Feb 28, 2005 Source: ABS-CBNNEWS LOS ANGELES - All the Backstreet Boys ask is that you give them a fair chance. The quintet is set to return with a new Jive album in June preceded by a single in March. "That's the first thing we thought about when we started making the record," the group's Howie Dorough says. "That's why we said we weren't going to give ourselves a time limit. We wanted to make sure this album would give us a shot again to be around for the long haul so people will realize that we're not, hopefully, a flash in the pan in their eyes." If the group's performance of "When I Grow Up to Be a Man" at the recent MusiCares dinner honoring Brian Wilson was any indication, the act is in fine form. In fact, Wilson declared it one of the evening's best performances. The group is narrowing down the album's final 12 tunes from more than 40 that it cut with many producers including John Shanks, Billy Mann, the Underdogs and Max Martin. "The music has matured," Dorough says. "It's a little more stripped down, a little more organic. There's not necessarily five-part harmony on everything you hear." One song sure to feature that trademark harmony, however, is their remake of the Eagles' "Best of My Love" -- if it makes the cut. The group's last studio album, "Black & Blue," came out in November 2000. The project sold 5.4 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan, including a blazing 1.6 million in its first week of release. |

Backstreet Boys Promise New Single 'Is Going To Shock You
Date: Feb 24, 2005 Source: mtv.com BEVERLY HILLS, California - Backstreet Boys fans determined to find out details about the group's comeback might have "Incomplete" information. Since some radio stations began playing a leaked song called Incomplete last month, many have assumed it's the first single from the group's as-yet-untitled new album, but that may not be the case. While participating in various Grammy-related events recently, the Backstreet Boys revealed they are still deciding between Incomplete, I Still and Weird World, written by Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik. Fans will find out March 18, when the single will be officially released to radio stations. "Whatever it is, it's going to shock you," Nick Carter promised. The group finished recording last month and is now narrowing down a list of 43 completed tracks to the 15 or so that'll make the album. "It's going to be a hard process, but I think we have our favorites," Howie Dorough said. "The [best songs] reveal themselves," Kevin Richardson said. "You just kind of keep cutting and the cream rises to the top. All we wanted to do on this record is explore ? we recorded some heavy urban R&B tracks, we recorded some kinda heavy rock tracks, and we kind of found a place in the middle." The Backstreet Boys worked with Boyz II Men, a cappella masters Take 6 and former Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes, as well as producers the Underdogs, John Shanks, Billy Mann and veteran teen-pop songsmith Max Martin. "Max is actually the one that kind of made us shift and turn from going more urban and R&B more towards the [rock]," A.J. McLean said. "Our whole album, we feel like this time, has a more organic sound," Richardson added. "We have more live instrumentation than in the past albums. We're using a lot of sequencers and synthesizers and stuff. I think it's safe to say it's on a kinda rock/pop/alternative vibe." It took the group more than a year to make the album because "we were kind of lost for a little while," according to Richardson. "Things were moving so fast," he said. "We have perspective now. We're all in a great place. A.J. is doing great, two and a half years sober now. Brian's got a baby boy. The batteries are recharged. We've had a chance to step back and soak it all in." Being at the Grammy events, especially at the MusiCares tribute to Brian Wilson, where they sang When I Grow Up (To Be a Man), got the guys extra stoked about returning to the spotlight. "We're anxious to get back onstage," McLean said. "[MusiCares] was just a little taste, and now it's just like, 'God, I wanna get on the road again!' " While their album is scheduled for a summer release, the Backstreet Boys are planning a warm-up club tour to kickoff next month. So far three dates have trickled out: March 24 at the Avalon in Boston, April 1 at the NorVa in Norfolk, Virginia, and April 2 at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. --Corey Moss |

Backstreet Boys Set To Retur
Date: Feb 15, 2005 Source: canada.com Backstreet Boys Set To Return New song premieres on March 18 Canadian Press February 14, 2005 (AP/Stephen Chernin) The Backstreet Boys were eager to show the paparazzi they were back together, appearing at parties and red carpets throughout Grammy weekend. The quintet has just completed a CD, set for release in late spring. One of the new songs will hit radio on March 18, said member Kevin Richardson. "We're all excited again," he said. "We just needed a break to recharge our batteries and step back and absorb it all, and realize what happened to us over the last 10 years." The so-called Boys have grown considerably since their reign of the teen world. AJ McLean has overcome his alcohol and drug addictions, and Brian Littrell has a new baby, said Richardson. Boy bands have gone out of flavour so it will be a challenge for the singing group to find a place in the current market, especially since most of their teen fans have moved on to other types of music. Richardson said other "boys" have managed to stay the course and so will they. "You still have the Beach Boys and the Beastie Boys," quipped Richardson. Thankfully, he admitted the crew will be leaving their aerobic dance moves behind. "We're practising what they call 'dancing without dancing' right now," he explained. |
