This tutorial created February 23, 2002 and is the sole property of Bubbles' PSP. Please do not copy this tutorial to any other site without permission from me. PSP groups, please feel free to use my tutorials in your groups. All I ask is that you pass around the url and not the tutorial itself. A basic knowledge of PSP is needed for this tutorial as I will not be showing screenshots or going into a lot of explaining on some of the basic steps like I do most of my tutorials.

For this tutorial you will need the following:

PAINT SHOP PRO VS 7.02 (Trial Version)

EYECANDY 4000 (Trial Version)

You will also need an image of your choice. If you wish to use the same image that I am using, click here. I received the graphic through one of my groups and do not know who to give recognition to for this graphic. If anyone should know who the artist is, I would appreciate it if you would email me so that I can contact him/her about using the graphic. If you want to use the same goldfill that I'm using, click here. You may use your choice of gold preset or goldfill; please don't feel limited to use what I'm using. You will also need your choice of dings for this tutorial. A great place to find dings is at The House of Lime. I am using Corners 1 Caps C size 96. Now, on to the tutorial.

1. Open up your image in PSP. Make a copy of it (Shift+D) and close the original. We will be working with the copy.

2. Before we begin our framing, click on your selection tool (rectangle feather=0 antialias unchecked) and go to your graphic and select part of the image to use in your frame. Then go to Selections/Convert to Seamless Pattern. A new image filled with your selected pattern will appear. Minimize that and go to Selections/Select None to deselect the selected area on your image.

3. With your background color set to white (#FFFFFF), go to Images/Add Borders 5 pixels symmetric checked. With your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0) click on your white border to select it. Floodfill with your favorite preset or goldfill. Selections/Invert. Effects/PluginFilters/EyeCandy 4000/Cutout using these settings: Direction-270; Distance-1.44; Blur-14.06; Opacity-100; Color-Black. Deselect.

4. With background color still set to white (#FFFFFF), go to Image/Add Borders 25 pixels symmetric checked. With your magic wand, (tolerance-0 feather-0) select your white border. Switch your background color to patterns and select the pattern you chose from your graphic at the beginning of the tutorial. Scale 100% Angle 45%. Fill your selected border with the pattern. Do not deselect.

5. Effects/PluginFilters/EyeCandy 4000/Jiggle with these settings: Movement Type-Turbulence; Bubble Size-51.00; Warp Amount-21.00; Twist-90; Random Seed-1; Seamless Tile checked.

6. Selections/Invert. Effects/PluginFilters/EyeCandy 4000/Cutout using same settings as in Step 3. Selections/Select None.

7. With white (#FFFFFF) as your background color, go to Image/Add Borders 5 pixels symmetric checked. With your magic wand, (tolerance-0 feather-0) click on your white border to select it. Floodfill the selected border with your goldfill or choice of preset. Selections/Invert. Effects/PluginFilters/EyeCandy 4000/Cutout using the same settings as in Step 3. Selections/Select None.

8. Layers/New Raster Layer click okay. With background color white (#FFFFFF) and foreground null, click on your text tool and select your ding. I used Corners 1 Cap C Size 96 Antialias and Floating checked.

9. Position your ding on the left corner of your frame, floodfill with your goldfill or choice of preset. Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow with these settings: Opacity-100; Blur-2; Horizontal-1 Vertical-1. Deselect.

10. Go to your layer palette and right click on your ding layer. Select "Duplicate" and then go to Image/Mirror. There will now be a ding on the right upper corner of your frame. Make sure that ding layer is active (Copy of Layer 2), right click on it, select "Duplicate" and go to Image/Flip. You should now have a ding on the bottom right corner of your frame. Making sure that layer is active, (Copy of Copy of Layer 2), right click on it, select "Duplicate" and go to Image/Mirror. You should now have a ding on the bottom left corner. Layers/Merge/Merge ALL Flatten.

11. Resize if necessary, remembering to go to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen More after each resize. Save as .jpeg and that's it. Below is another example using this tutorial using a softening effect on the graphic before framing it.
