I want to thank Sherry for testing this tutorial for me. She's been a real trooper about testing my tuts for me, and I really appreciate it, Sherry.
This tutorial created February 27, 2002 and is the sole property of Bubbles' PSP. Please do not copy this tutorial to any other website without permission from me. PSP groups, please feel free to share my tutorials with your groups. All I ask is that you pass around the url linking to the tutorial and not the tutorial itself. Some working knowledge of PSP is needed for this tutorial. If you have any problems with this tutorial, please feel free to email me. And remember, "SAVE OFTEN"!
For this tutorial you will need:
PAINT SHOP PRO VS 7.02 (Trial Version)
You will also need an image of your choice. If you want to use the image that I am using, just click here. If you want to use the same goldfill that I'm using, just click here. And you will need your preset shape frame, go here. You will need to unzip these into your shapes folder in psp. I had downloaded these preset shapes while working on one of Bunney's tutorials. She has some really fantastic tutorials. Be sure to drop in and visit Bunney at Bunney's Burrow.
1. Open up your image and brushedgold pattern fill in psp. Minimize the brushedgold pattern fill and make a copy of your image (Shift+D). Close the original as we will be working with the copy of the image. Now, click on your selection tool (rectangle feather 0 antialias unchecked) and go to your graphic and select part of the image that you want to use in your frame. Selections/Convert to Seamless Pattern. A new image will appear filled with your selection. Minimize the seamless pattern, go to Selections/Select None to get rid of your rectangle selection on your image, and minimize your image for now.
2. Go to File/New and open up a new image 400w x 400h transparent background 16.7 million colors. With background color null and foreground color white (#FFFFFF), click on your preset shapes tool. Select your frame that you downloaded for this tutorial from the Shape Type box using these settings: Antialias checked; line width 5; line style #1 solid. I am using Frame Shape S for this tutorial.

3. Go to your new image, place your cursor at starting point 20,20 and draw across and down to ending point 380,380. With your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), click on the white part of your frame to select it. Floodfill with your choice of goldfill, pattern or bladepro preset. I'm using brushedgold pattern fill, scale 100% angle 0. Since we will be switching back and forth to your frame layer, it might be a good ideal to name this layer frame so you can find it easily.

4. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the Pillows preset with these settings: Width 8; Smoothness 40; Depth 2; Ambience 0; Shininess 10; Angle 315; Intensity 50; Elevation 25; Color White.

5. Selections/Invert. Layers/New Raster Layer. Effects/3D Effects/Cutout with these settings: Opacity 85; Blur 7.5; Horizontal 2; Vertical 2. Selections/Select None. Now would be a good time to save your work.

6. Make your frame layer active. Grab your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), and click inside the center part of your frame. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1.

. Layers/New Raster Layer. Layer/Arrange/Send to Bottom. Go to your image that you are framing and make it active. Edit/Copy. Minimize your graphic, make your frame image active, and go to Edit/Paste into Selection. Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen. Selections/Select None. Save your work.
8. Activate your frame layer and with your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), and while holding down your shift key, click on the inside of the four triangles surrounding your center image. See below:

9. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Layers/New Raster Layer. Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom. Pick a color from your graphic and floodfill your selected parts of the frame. I used #C32919. Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Fine Leather and use these settings: Angle 210; Blur 10; Number of Furrows 18; Length of Furrows 10; Transparency 247; Color Black. Selections/Select None. Save.

10. With your frame layer active, grab your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), hold down your shift key, and select the four outer corners in the center frame. See below.

11. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Layers/New Raster Layer. Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom. Switch your background color to patterns and select the pattern you selected from your image at the beginning of the tutorial. Scale 100% Angle 0. Floodfill your selected corners. Selections/Select None. I chose not to use the Fine Leather effect here, but you can if you prefer to.
12. Once again, make your frame layer active. With your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), while holding down the shift key, click inside the long, narrow openings on the outside of the frame. See below.

13. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Layers/New Raster Layer. Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom. Flood fill this selection with a contrasting color from your graphic. I used #D3C9BB. Effects/Texture Effects/Fine Leather using the same settings you used in Step 9. Selections/Select None. Save.
14. Back to your frame layer, magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), with shift key held down, click on the four square corners of the frame. See below.

15. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Layers/New Layer. Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom. I filled this part with color #C32919. You can use your pattern fill here if you would rather. Effects/Texture Effects/Fine Leather and use the same settings as before. Selections/Select None. Save.
16. Hang in there, we're almost finished. Go back to your frame layer. See those long, thin openings in your frame. We need to fill them. If you magnify X1 it will be easier to select and fill them. Grab your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), hold down the shift key, and select the rest of the openings in your frame. See below.

17. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Layers/New Raster Layer. Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom. I filled this with #C32919 and went to Effects/Texture Effects/Fine Leather and used the same settings as before. Selections/Select None. Save.
18. Activate your frame layer once again. With your magic wand, (tolerance 0 feather 0), click on the outside of the frame. Selections/Invert. Your frame should now be selected. Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. Edit/Copy. Edit/Paste as New Image. This will get rid of the excess space on the outside of your frame. Layers/Merge/Merge All (Flatten). Save as .jpg. Resize if necessary, remembering to go to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen after each resize.

Here is another example I made.
