The
Gunslinger Chronicles
Showdown
in the Saloon
----May 23rd, 2001
----description: A friendly poker game becomes ugly when five Aces turn up in the deck.
----set up: The Saloon board (DD) with one table (F17) surrounded by six chairs. Four money
Normally, this scenario
is for seven characters. An eighth one was added at the last minute.
Given the set-up,
this one promises to be quick and bloody. Fanfiring will be prominate
over the first few
turns, but since no one has a one handed bonus, it may be ineffective.
Also, fisticuffs
will play a big role. Getting in the first jab or belt may buy enough
time to draw and
aim your gun effectively for the first kill.
The trick is to
get a little distance between you and the other players. Thus establishing
the all-important
move status on your character. I expect at least one player to go
for
the main door.
Those who are trapped against the corner may try fanfiring or punching
their way out.
Before the game begins,
I must decide on which character I will play. I am submitting
a list with my preferences
numbered from one to eight. Idealy, I would like to be either the
Foreman or Eagle,
since they begin the game standing and can establish some distance
before the gunfight
really gets going. However, everyone else may have the same ideal.
Also,
the Eagle's tomahawk
makes him a prime target in the first few turns. Since I think everyone
will pick those
two first, the Old Man becomes my first pick since he can choose which
chair he will sit
in before the others. Interestingly enough, the best armed character for
this
showdown may be
the NCO. His sabre has an advantage over the knifes. However,
this also
makes him a huge
target, so I'm better off picking him later.
-------My
list: In
the order that I want.
------Old
Man: 3 BR cards,
good strength, & is first character.
------Smith:
BR
of +2, third character.
------Cattle
Baron: Nothing
special, except he does go second.
------Banker:
Again,
nothing special, may go unnoticed.
------NCO:
SBR
& BR+1, too big a target.
------Owner:
Same
as Banker, but is poorly positioned at sixth.
------Foreman:
Good
strength, but may be highly sought after.
------Eagle:
Perhaps
the best character in the game. Way too dangerous for me.
Pretty soon, the GM (Tom Cundiff) will
have the order in players randomly determined.
That order will decide what characters
we will receive. So, until the next post...
----May 27th, 2001
Well, the results are in and I am the Owner.
The good news is that my character
has no special abilities whatsoever, so
I shoud draw the least amount of attention.
Unfortunately, his biggest drawback is
his 6th position. This means that I will get the
worst set-up possible. Oh well,
my punishment for picking him sixth. As soon as it
is my turn to set up, I will make a new
post.
----june 6th, 2001
Set up is complete, here's how it looks:
------Old
Man: Set up: E18
Facing: F17
------Cattle
Baron: Set up:
G18 Facing F18
------Banker:
Set
up: F16 Facing: F17.
------Smith:
Set up: E17 Facing: F16
------NCO:
Set
up: F18 Facing: G19
------Owner:
Set
up: G17 Facing: G16
------Foreman:
Set
up: H17 Facing: G17
------Eagle:
Set
Up: F15 Facing: G16
I had no choice as to my set up, since
I must sit in the last chair. However, I do have a choice
on facing. And since the Cattle
Baron is looking away from me, I decided to turn my
back on him and face towards the door.
Since I announced my set up, the Foreman
& the Eagle have now set up and it doesn't
look good for me. The Foreman is
in my blind spot and the Eagle is facing towards
the hex I'm facing. So bolting for
the door may not be an option.
Of note, the NCO, who may be the best
armed character in this showdown, looks to be
headin' for the stairs. The Cattle
Baron might have somethin' to say about that.
My next post will have my moves & results of the first turn.
