Ken says: Catan for two. Klaus Tuber's answer to the hue and cry of fans who wanted a two player version of one of the most popular games of the 90's. That said, this is one of the more interesting card games ever produced. Those who have played the original will be familiar with the basic mechanics. In essence, you must earn a set number of points to win. Points are earned by using the available resources to build settlements, cities, and other buildings. Each new settlement will add two resource cards that you can use. Ports and mills can reduce the cost of trade, making it easier to build what you want.
There are some differences though. Namely in the acquisition of random event cards to plague your opponent. Also, a player can earn points if he/she has the better economy (I.E. if you have the most building cards with the windmill symbols) and if he/she has the most knights.
Pros: To be fair, this is one of the more involving games I've ever played. Unlike Bohnanza or Buried Treasure, it rewards planning and a long term strategy. So, if you liked the original and are looking for something more intense and with far more options, this game is for you.
Cons:
While this is an easy game to learn, the sheer number of things to keep
track of is, well...unsettling. I would recommend making a separate resource
chart just so you know what you have. Not to mention, remind you of what
you need to go after. There is far less interaction in this game compared
to the original. And it's pretty easy to "knock around" some resource cards,
thereby losing track of how many wheats or bricks you may have.
