CURRICULUM MASTER PLOICY

The faculty and staff at Taylor Middle-High School believe that being in class everyday is vital to a student’s academic success. Consistent attendance contributes to greater student achievement, higher grades, and the development of a positive life long work ethic. Therefore, we have implemented the following curriculum master policy.

Florida State statutes and the Volusia School District Pupil Progression Plan Policy 307 both designate that students must be in attendance for a specified number of hours to earn credit for a course. If this time requirement is not met, students must demonstrate course mastery (defined by the state as a grade of “c” or higher – 70% or higher) to earn credit in a course.

A student who misses more than 5 days in a nine week period has not met the state/county attendance requirement. Rather than automatically failing the course, the student has an opportunity to earn credit by demonstrating course mastery. To demonstrate course mastery, a student must earn a grade of 70% or higher on a comprehensive nine weeks exam and maintain a passing average for the course. If your son/daughter earns less than 70% on the required exam, he/she does not meet the course mastery requirement. Your son/daughter will then receive a grade of “F” for that grading period. Please impress upon your child the importance of attending all classes, completing all assigned work, and arriving to school and classes on time. Excused and unexcused absences are included, as are absences due to in-school and out-school suspensions. School related absences such as field trips, contests, Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSSA) activities, testing, guidance activities, or administrative passes, are not included. It is the student’s responsibility to show the teacher a pass for a school-related absence and to make up the missed work.
