Unchi Mitawa ye. My Grandmother. |
I suppose you are expecting a big story about my Grandmother. A woman from the Sicangu Lakota Oyate, she was very modest. She raised me as her own child since I was just a baby. But that is what Lakota Unchis do best. She tought me Lakota basic values of Love "Cantognake", Generosity "Canteyuke", Wisdom "Woksape", Respect "Wawoohola", Compassion "Waunsilapi", Perserverance "Wowacintanka", Fortitude "Cantewasake" to name off some. She was a very loved and respected woman by all though who knew her. She has finally returned to the place she wished to be and that is the Black Hills. May you rest in peace and I will see you again Below you will see a poem I have written in honor of her journy back to the Sacred Black Hills. ~NOTE~ PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL AND DO NOT COPY OR REMOVE ANY ITEM OFF OF THIS WEB SITE. Letting her Go We stood on the trail that has been etched out by strangers to the land that is sacred to our people. Laughing and giggling, we sisters at heart slowly prepared her for her journey to our ancestors. The Cathedral of gods, where Tunkashila and Wakan Tanka mix with with Wakinyan and bless all creation. Our hearts filled with prayer, emotions and all at once peace. Letting her go; releasing her spirit to hunka'yapi who are awaiting her arrival. Paha Sapa never looked so beautiful. The energy never so great. We laughed and remembered her and all her charm. Letting her go was never so easy, but done with respect. Letting her go; releasing her spirit to hunka'yapi who are awaiting her arrival. We will all meet again. Out of love and respect we are letting her go. |
