Seven Wishes is one of the bands paving the way in the upper echelon of Euro melodic hard rock.  Hailing from Sweden, they recently released their debut self titled album, which was recieved with high and well deserved acclaim.  Dive into the band's past and influences with their guitarist Anthony Cedergren.

1. Can you tell me about the band's background and when you first got together?
Tony and I (Anthony) have been have been playing together for ages, we share exactly the same taste in music and got equal values how a band shall funcion. There’s not much to say about the past really, except that Tony and I released an album with a band called LoveChild (Japan only) back in -94. Our ”real story” began when we met our singer Pelle(the missing link), a couple of years ago. Then we felt like a solid unit for the first time, heading for the same goal.

2. Who or what have influenced the overall sound of Seven Wishes the most?
The -80’s!!!!!!!! Bands like Dokken, XYZ, Rat among many many others. They had it all….. the sound and the look. You can’t find much of that in bands today. But we’re not trying to copy them, we just love what they did especially when it comes to the attitude. But we are here and now so we are effected by the present aswell…

Anthony from Seven Wishes!3. What are some of the band's current favorite metal artists?
What can I say about that?….. I like power metalbands like Primal Fear and Rhapody, but I always end up listening to the first Lynch Mob album ”Wicked Sensation” and Dokken ”Under lock and key”, my all time favorites. Tony like VonGroove, Yngwie Malmsteen among many others. Pelle listen to Aerosmith and AC/DC(the old stuff with Bon Scott). But as I said before, we love the old stuff of Dokken, XYZ etc.

4. Could you share some information about the progress of the next album?
Tony and I write all the new stuff. It seems to work out great The songs will be in the same vein as before but with more ”depth”(larger arrangements….it’s hard to describe). You have to wait and see. We plan to record it later this autumn.

5. Where do you see the band heading musically in the next few years?
No big changes really, but who can tell? We’ll keep on writing songs as we always do and hopefully we’ve reached a larger audience. One thing’s certian….we’ll never quit, you have to eat and sleep, we have to play music as well…...

6. The name "Seven Wishes" is interesting, who came up with it and what was the inspiration for naming the band this?
During the second world war the allied forces did this huge flight raid against the enemy. The only plane that survived the attack was called Seven Wishes. When Mark Alger (The King of Z-Records) suggested it, we just loved it! A great name for an everlasting band or what?..;-)

7. What do you think about the enormous amount of tribute albums popping up, and does the band have any plans to record a song for one?
Don’t know really…. Haven’t heard much of those…..We have no such plans for the moment but if we were asked to participate on one it would be fun.

Tony from Seven Wishes8. Could you give some background information, personal opinions and/or sentiments behind some of my favorite Seven Wishes songs?

"We Want it All"
One of my personal favorites too. The title speakes for itself. The song is about never giving up….. Persevere and never fear…….. It’s our kind of anthem. vocalist Pelle from Seven Wishes

"Love Affection"
A plain and simple party rock’n roll song.

"Bring Me to Heaven"
Well, it’s about people who loves eachother but in the same time can’t decide if they really want to make a future out of it… There is of course a true and sad story behind this song but we really want the listener to ”paint their own picture” of this story.

"The Wasted"
Another of my favorites… This song was not supposed to end up on this album in the first place. But we wanted togive the song a second chance so we decided re-record it. We improved the verse and the chorus and suddenly we had a song that we really liked. The guitar maestro Pontus Norgren (Great King Rat / Talisman) is the one who plays the SUPERB guitar solo on the song. (Cheers Pontus!!!)

9. How about some details on the Z Rock 2000 festival you recently attended?
We felt like coming home……. It was like a timetravel back to the -80’s. Meeting all those nice and friendly rockers was just amazing! Those were the best days of our lives so far. We met this guy from Germany who had saved his money for a year just to came and see US! I hope that we’ll be able to come back again next year.

10. Any interesting stories to share that might have happened while writing or recording the debut?
A few weeks after we finished the recording we decided to kick the drummer out of the band…..What a relief!!!!!!! It was like working with a ”zombie”…….With a new drummer (an alive one) everything will turn out much easier.

11. Parting comments?
I want to thank all of you out there who believe in us and bought our album………..Looking forward to meet all of you on tour. Regards Anthony.

A huge thanks to Anthony Cedergren for being kind enough to answer these questions.  I wish him and the rest of the band all the best, and look forward to their next album.
