The following zines have some interest to me, either through connection with State of unBeing or by having originated in Austin, Texas.
State of unBeing, frequently edited by Kilgore Trout, is a literary ezine now in its seventh year of publication. I have already answered most of the questions in the FAQ, and the SoB homepage is already well beyond what I'm going to do here, so go there.
I have also archived .zip versions of all the issues here.
Gopher, usually edited by Rewired, is a more recent literary creation, out of the Great Lakes region, more or less. Similar to SoB, but also unique. It's archives may be found here.
eScene, edited by Jeff Carlson, et al., has released three annual issues. It is very professional in the tone of its writing, entirely fiction and predominantly mainstream. Worth reading, and a hell of a lot cheaper than the annual American Best Short Stories volumes. It's homepage can be found here. It appears to be defunct. The issues below are in .zip format.
The Vertigo Voice, formerly edited by Introvert, lasted under a year. The final issue was published eleven months before his unfortunate suicide. This can be read about in State of unBeing #32. Introvert was an occasional contributer to State of unBeing. The whole run of Vertigo Voice can be found below.
·SwanK·, edited by Adidas, an occasional SoB contributer, has been irregularly published since May of 1995. I had hoped to archive all the issues, but most cannot be found. I believe it to be defunct.
Of particular interest is the interview with I Wish My Name Were Nathan in issue 2.
Cheap Truth was edited between 1983 and 1986 by Austin's own Bruce Sterling. It served as the "propaganda organ" for the Cyberpunk Movement. Now long defunct.
Edited by Blade X and distrubted on boards such as Bamboo Gardens and SMOF, Scream Baby was perhaps the first zine I was familiar with; it was certainly one of the oldest in Austin. I believe it is now defunct.
Check out the Scream Baby .gif, and the Scream Baby ad.
Spilled Ink's webpage, hosted at the University of Texas at Austin, can be found here.
Edited by Twilight, I believe this zine was originally out of Houston but now is out of Austin. (I had also thought it was defunct, but there is an issue as of December 1998.)
Somewhere, on some floppy disc, I have the couple of issues of The Dragon's Guide, put out by Lowtech's very own Dragon Girl. If I ever find it, I'll add it here. Until then, take my word for it: The zine exists. I suspect it is also long defunct.
