Basics


Control - Add to selection
Alt - Remove from selection

Shift + Move = Clone

In Clone -



1) Copy - Only selected objects will be modified when one is modified eg. tapered
2) Instance -All Objects will be modified when one is modified eg. tapered

Right click in a viewport to change without losing selection

Right click on a viewport label to -

a) Change Shade Mode - Wireframe, Smoothshade, Bounding Box only, etc.
b) Toggle Grid Display ON/OFF
c) Change view - Left, Front, Top, Perspective, etc.
d) Toggle ViewPort Background ON/Off
e) Configure View
f) Toggle Enable/Disable View

Grouping objects

Select two or more objects
Click Group > Group
Give a name to the group
OK

Group is created

To add new object to the group:

Pick the group
Group > Open
Pick the new object to add to the group
Group > Attach
Click on the group in the active viewport
Group > Close (Important and Required)

To remove object from a group:

Select the group
Group > Open
Select the object to remove from the group
Group > Detach
Group > Close (Imp. and Req.)

To create Named Selection sets:



Select objects to create a selection set out of
Click on the third pulldown list on the main toolbar (see fig. above)
Enter a name for the selection set
Press Enter

Using a named selection set:

Click on the "Named Selection Set" list on the main toolbar
Select a name from the list
Objects in that selset are selected

Move, rotate and scale by exact amount along different axes:

Select the object
Click on move on the toolbar
The buttton turns green



Right Click on the green button or press F12
A dialog box appears
Type the values for X, Y and Z movement, rotation, or scaling

To convert objects to editable mesh:

Select the object
Click the modify tab
Click the "Edit Stack" Button
A list appears
Select - Editable mesh
Click "Sub-Object" Button below - It becomes yellow
List appears at the right
Select vertex or edge or face from the list
Accordingly, vertices, edges or faces appear on the object
Pick vertices, edges or faces on the object and move, rotate or scale them
Click the Sub-Object button again (The yellow color should disappear)

To make an editable mesh smooth:

Click Sub Object button if it is yellow
The button becomes gray
Select the object in any viewport
Click on more at the top
Select MeshSmooth from the list
Click OK
Press Shift+Q to quick render the viewport

More Selection Techniques :

1) Locking a Selection Set

Select a set of objects and press spacebar or click on the lock button (which turns yellow) on the status bar .


The selection set is locked for move, rotate, etc. and other objects cannot be picked until the lock button is clicked again.

2) Isolating an Object

Select a single object
Ctrl + Right Click on the object
PopUp menu appears



Select Isolate Tool
