"I can't believe you did that," Kyndall yelled at Catlyn as they walked back towards the truck.
"I'm sorry. I didn't think you'd be seeing him again. Jesus, Kyn. I was only trying to help," Catlyn said softly.
"Yeah, well, keep your nose out of my business," Kyndall snapped turning to glare at her friend.
Catlyn looked as if she'd been slapped. Her eyes were wide, her mouth open. Narrowing her eyes to slits, she closed her mouth with a snap. "Okay. If that's how you want it. Two can play that game," she said softly walking past Kyndall.
"What the hell is this?" Kyndall complained as she walked up to her truck. Parked next to her was a black Expedition. It was partially in her space, making it near impossible for her to open her door. "Whoever this thing belongs to is dead," she said.
"Interesting," Catlyn murmured looking at the truck. "If I didn't know better, I'd say it belonged to a Mr. AJ McLean. But then again, what do I know?" she asked leaning against Kyndall's vehicle.
"How do you know that?" Kyndall asked.
"Well, for one, the license plate says "DABONE"," Catlyn pointed.
"Yeah, so," Kyndall shrugged.
"And for two," she nodded. "He's coming this way."
"Shit," Kyndall swore softly. "Get in the truck."
"Why? It's not like he doesn't know you're here," Catlyn said.
"I don't want you talking to him," Kyndall said trying to unlock the door to the back of the Expedition.
"Oh. Now you're telling me who I can and can't talk to?"
"No. I just don't want you telling him anymore of my secrets," Kyndall said finally getting her key in the hole.
"Hey Kyndall," AJ said walking up. "Damn, I'm sorry. Guess I parked kinda weird."
"Umm…yeah. Guess you did," she murmured not looking at him.
"Hey Catlyn," he nodded.
"AJ," she smiled. "How are you?"
"Could be better. How bout you?" he asked watching Kyndall struggle with the door. Walking over he helped her open it and then proceeded to help her put her bags in the back. She didn't realize how close he was until he said, "Nice truck," almost whispering it in her ear.
"Umm…thanks," she mumbled, stepping away from him.
"I'm doing okay. I guess," Catlyn answered watching them.
"That's cool. I uh…guess I'd better move the truck so ya'll can leave," he said smiling at Kyndall. She looked away and walked over to her door waiting for him to move. "It was nice seeing ya'll again," he waved as he got in his truck and pulled it out of the spot. Kyndall wasted no time unlocking the doors and getting in. Catlyn waved to AJ as he drove off.
"There was no need to be rude," Catlyn commented as Kyndall sped out of the parking lot.
"Shut up," Kyndall growled, not taking her eyes off the road.
"What did you just say?"
"I told you to shut up. I don't want to hear anything from you. I can't believe you. I thought you were my best friend," she said her eyes filling with tears.
"I am," Catlyn said softly. "I'm sorry Kyn. I thought I was being helpful. I'm sorry. What else can I say?"
"Just don't say anything. Just don't do anything. Okay?" Kyndall asked turning towards Catlyn. "I just don't want you having anything to do with anything."
"Umm…okay," Catlyn said. "I won't," she murmured staring out the window. Realizing she had basically lost her best friend, her tears started falling. "Somehow," she whispered. "You will be with AJ, and maybe then you'll be able to forgive me." Closing her eyes, she dozed off, sleeping away the trip back to Daytona.
