"Oh my GAWD," Catlyn exclaimed as they exited the building. "That was so freakin' cool."
Nick grinned. "Oh yeah. Definitely my new favorite place," he nodded.
"We definitely have to come back here at night," she smiled at him. "I mean…I have to," she corrected herself looking away quickly. She glanced back at him to find him watching her.
"Yeah. I'm glad it was open today, though," he said looking deep in her eyes. Reaching out, he brushed away a strand of hair that was blowing in her face. Cocking his head to the side, a lop-sided grin formed on his mouth. "Ya know, you have wicked eyes," he said softly, his hand moving to cup her cheek.
Laughing self-consciously, Catlyn averted her eyes. "Okay," she mumbled making a face.
"Really. They're like this bluish gray color until you look closer," he said leaning in a bit. "Then there is a bunch of green in there," he made little circles in front of her face with his other hand as he moved closer to her. "And then," he mumbled, his lips less than an inch from hers, "there is just a hint of light brown," he murmured, brushing her lips with his.
It was as if a swift breeze passed directly through her, an almost electric shock passing through her body at his touch. His lips, feeling hers respond, deepened the kiss, his tongue slipping in to sample the sweetness of her mouth, exploring, seeking, learning. All too soon, they pulled away, breathless. They stared at each other. Both knowing the questions going through the other's minds and knowing the answers weren't there.
Looking away at almost the same time, Nick cleared his throat and scratched his head nervously. Catlyn fidgeted with her watch, her rings, her clothes. "Hungry?" Nick asked suddenly.
Catlyn laughed. "Nice save Frack," she grinned. "Sure. Lead on," she said.
Getting in and pulling out of the parking lot, Nick looked over to find Catlyn lost in thought. "What'cha thinking about?" he asked turning down the stereo.
"Oh. I was thinking of Kyndall and AJ," she said flashing a half-hearted smile at him before returning her gaze to the window.
"Hmm. And what about them?"
She shrugged, looking down at her hands that were folded in her lap. "Does AJ talk about her?" she looked up at Nick.
He chuckled. "Only about all the time. I don't remember him talking about Randa that way," he shook his head.
"Really?" Catlyn said surprised. "Hmmm."
"Not the answer you expected?"
"Not really. I don't know. It's just that he seems so caught up in Miranda. Like she has some invisible restraint on him. Some unseen leash."
"Sex and companionship," Nick said bluntly. Catlyn looked over at him. "What?" he asked with a laugh. "It's true. That is the only reason he is with her. The sex apparently is awesome. I personally wouldn't know, but the way those two go at it."
"Nick really," Catlyn said making a face. "Spare me the details."
"Don't tell me it embarrasses you to talk about sex."
"Well, I certainly don't have the Salt N Pepa freedom about discussing it, no."
He laughed. "Salt N Pepa. You're too funny," he said between chuckles. He shook his head. "Anyway. They don't love each other. They're just together because no one else wants them. Well," he said looking over at Catlyn, correcting himself quickly, "at least that's the case with Randa. She may be sexy as sin, but she's a total bitch."
"Really?" she murmured. "I hadn't noticed."
"But AJ's been with her for so long that he's gotten use to having her around. He doesn't remember what life was like BEFORE her. Don't get me wrong, he's had his share of fun on the side, but he's never gotten attached to them. They're just a fling until he got back to Randa. And I know she's had her fair share of one nighters. But they always seem to find themselves back with each other. As miserable as they make each other, they were all each other had. Until now."
"So, why doesn't he move on. Hook up with Kyndall if that's what he wants. I know that she does."
"Because he's afraid. If he moves on with Kyndall, it's a permanent detachment from Randa. Something he hasn't had in years. His feelings for Kyn wouldn't allow anything else. And then, if things don't work out, as sometimes they don't, he'd be left with nothing. And I believe that is the invisible chain that keeps him linked to Ray," Nick said pulling into the parking lot of Denny's. "Hope you don't mind," he nodded towards the restaurant. "I'm in the mood for an omelet."
"Eggs?" Catlyn wrinkled her nose. "Disgusting," she shuddered.
He laughed and swung his arm around her shoulders. "Aww, c'mon, Cat. Eggs are gooood," he said, chuckling as she scrunched up her face in disgust.
