Chapter 43

"What the hell?" AJ complained dropping himself into the nearest chair. "This is so unfair. It cuts right into our vacation."

"But it's for a good cause, Bone," Kevin said reviewing some of the paperwork.

"You'd do it if it were for your Johnny thing," Brian pointed out, glancing up from the information packet they had been given by their management. The Boys had been called in for a meeting to discuss a possible performance date. It was a 3-day, 10-band music festival for tropical storm disaster relief in the US Virgin Islands. The organization that had called their management with the idea wanted the Boys to headline the festival.

"Besides," Nick said glancing at Howie. "It could um…be a good place for a vacation."

"Yeah. No one said we had to work the whole time we're there. And we, uh…we don't have a deadline to leave," Howie winked at AJ.

A grin slowly formed on AJ's face as he picked up on Nick and Howie's train of thought. "Ya know," he said jumping up. "This might not be a bad thing after all," he murmured as he walked quickly out of the room.

Kevin and Brian exchanged confused glances. Kevin shrugged and tossed a folder onto the table. "I take it we're going then?" he asked, stretching his arms above his head.

Howie glanced at Nick and then at Kevin. "Guess so," he grinned.

"Sure," Nick said smiling an extremely suspicious cheesy smile.

Brian looked from Howie to Nick and then at Kevin. "I'm all for it," he said, looking back at Nick, "I guess."

"Okay then," Kevin said standing up slowly, walking towards the door as he dialed a number on his cell phone. "Yeah, this is Kevin. We'll do it," he said as he shut the door behind him.

Howie looked down at his watch and cringed. "Damn, gonna be late. I gotta run guys. I'll talk to ya'll later," he waved as he walked out.

"All right," Brian said looking at Nick. "Spill it."

"What?" Nick asked, his eyes wide.

"Ain't gonna work," Brian shook his head. "You're gonna hafta tell me. No way around it. Because I," he pointed at himself, "know you better than anyone else."

"There's nothing to tell," Nick denied. But he could tell by the way Brian was looking at him, that he wasn't going to give up until Nick had told him everything.

"Hey Kyn," Howie said as she answered the phone.

"Hey sweetie," she smiled.

"What'cha up to?" he asked as he walked to his car.

"Umm…just watching some TV, waiting for Cat to get home," she replied. "You?"

"Oh. I just got back from a meeting with the management," he said unlocking the door and climbing in. "That's why I'm running late."

"Ahh," Kyndall smiled. "It's okay."

Howie started the car, putting it in gear and backing out his spot. "Dammit," he grumbled as the phone started slipping. "Okay, cell phones and stick shifts do not mix," he complained. Kyndall laughed softly bringing a smile to his face. "Anyway, I've got some news."

"Oh? Good or bad?" she asked.

"Well, that all depends," he replied stopping at the light. Tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, he tried telepathy to make it change color faster. He wasn't too disappointed when it didn't work.

Kyndall smiled. "On what?" "On…well…I suppose I should tell you what it is first," he smiled as he heard her soft irritated sight. Laughing he continued. "Okay. The guys and I have been asked to go to the US Virgin Islands to headline a disaster relief music festival."

"That's awesome," she exclaimed. "When?"

"Well, we leave next week."

"Wow. That soon?" He could sense the disappointment in her voice.

"Yeah. And we're gonna stay down there for about a month or so," he added, smiling slyly.

"What? A month? Ya'll just got back and you're leaving again?" He could tell that she was on the verge of crying. He wasn't sure if it was because she was going to miss him or the small amount of contact she had with AJ although she was trying to forget him.

"Yeah, a month," he said softly. "But I was…we were wondering. See Kevin is bringing Shawna, and Brian is bringing Leighanne, and I think Crystal is coming with Nick. And well, we were wondering if you and Catlyn wanted to come along. Be a good vacation. Lotsa fun," he grinned.

"Hmm," Kyndall said thoughtfully. "I don't know."

"Well, it's just a thought," he said. "We'll talk about it more when I get there."

"Okay," she smiled.

"I'll see ya in about 20," Howie said hanging up the phone.
