Childhood Memories
A collection of precious and funny moments
From P:

1. Writing the word 'Mustang' (as in Ford Mustang) all over our brown Opel Rekord using a pentel pen

2. Going home for lunch during school days and swimming in the pool, which was usually empty around breakfast time but eventually got filled by lunch time

3. Thinking it was so neat to eat 'rasyon' from those metal thermos containers.   You know, the kind that stacked up and was round and cylindrical.

4. Buying c-rations and k-rations from the lady who sold PX goods on 17th Street

5. Buying inday-inday, angel cake, ibus, lubid-lubid, etc. from Mercedes

6. Stepping on lots of dog poo when we played Cops & Robbers at Lolo's house (what is now the grassy area outside Dad's bedroom)

7. Eating guavas, tambis and galangan at Lolo's house (i still think he's got the best guavas ever)

8. Going to Daily Foods in Shopping with Lolo and Lola on Sundays (after church) to buy Tarzan bubblegum and Plastic Balloon

9. Watching Star Wars for the first time at Iris Theater

10. Watching Bruce Lee movies (again at Iris) after dinner at Roli's across La Salle

11. Drinking Kleeko while waiting for Mom and Dad after their 'cursillo' in Sum-Ag

12. Buying clay pots along the road to Pulupandan

13. Lolo's 'classic' cars: the Bel-air, the Buick (really old), the Ensign

14. The smell of coffee beans being dried out in the sun at Lolo's house

15. The stinky smell copra being dried out in the sun at Lolo's house

16. Listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival and Tom Jones on Lolo's Philipps phonograph

17.  Watching 'The Funny Company' on channel 10

18.  Joining the TV show 'Kiddie Wonderland' at the ABS-CBN studio in Mandalagan (in front of what is now Rolling Hills chapels and jumping up and down the stage

From me:

1.  Not budging from the couch when the dirty kitchen in Central caught on fire because I was watching TV

2.  Being afraid of the HUGE horses that Lolo had at Little Baguio, seeing lily pads floating in the pool and catching tadpoles there and also getting stranded on a bank while boating

3.  Walking across the wooden planks in between the fish hatcheries in Lola's hacienda

4.  Getting bit by an iras at Lola's house

5.  Sneaking through the small gate in between the two houses at Central to play at Lola's house

6.  Packed classes at L'ecole

7.  Watching Pat when he jumped into the pool at Central before it was completely filled with water (he smacked his head)

8.  Eating ice cream at Celine's

9.  Falling asleep during midnight mass at Carmelite a few times

10.  Pat getting mad when he lost to Clauds (or to anyone) at piko

11.  Playing Hide and Seek and seeing someone actually climb the really tall basketball goal and hide behind the backboard

12.  Eating Jo-Jo candies that Lola and Lolo always handed out

13.  Watching Mom dye our clothes orange

14.  Watching someone take a picture of Sara when she was a baby.  My first memory of her was her on a big bed, dressed in nothing but a diaper, her hair sticking up and her pudgy folds sticking out.  "This is my sister," I remember thinking.

15.  Opening the lid of my desk, draping a blanket over it and pretending it was a tent

16.  Borrowing my first book at the school library about Snow White and Seven Dwarfs and feeling really proud

From C:

1.  Wilmar

2.  Sunrise School Supplies where Mom bought me a BIG pencil to whack Tony V. on the head because he hit me with his BIG pencil.  The pencil Mom got me was bigger.  Turns out I didn't feel like hitting him though.  I'm just a mellow yellow little boy.

3.  Dancing in the banyo by myself to Tom Jones because I was too shy to dance in front of people.  I think I was 6 or 7 years old then.

4.  Watching the movie "The Omen" with our family in Iris theater - last full show.  Hehe, scary but fun memories.

5.  The best times would be when we would all spontaneously go with cousins to watch a movie at Little Cinema while the adults were having a get-together luncheon in someone's house.  Us cousins would somehow play and eventually get bored playing and someone suggests we watch a movie.  Then we'd all come running to our parents and they could NOT say no.  How can they say no to 10 or more kids asking simultaneously?  Then we'd all troop to Little Cinema and buy candy and soda and watch the movie.

6.  Eating the illegal or cheap ice cream.  I thought those were actually better tasting than the Magnolia ones.

7.  Sneaking out of the house in Central and riding a jeepney to watch a movie in Real theater - orchestra section.  I thought that was scary but fun.  Hehe.

8.  Jack Jones records
