You raise your eyes, look through the glass window and see him lying on the hospital bed. Broken. Unwhole. You bring the scarf up slowly, twisting and winding it. Around your neck. Where it belongs. Paper clips are mundane things. So mundane, in fact, that you hardly give them a second thought, if at all. Yet here you are, uncooperative hands shaking, trying to pick up one damn paper clip. You try to put it back where it belongs. You try because the therapist says it's necessary. You try because you refuse to believe that you can't do it. You try because of … him. You brush imaginary lint off the empty seat next to you. It gives your hands something to do besides wait. Wait for him to come on board the plane, to sit beside you. Brush. Wait for him to hand you an apologetic smile, one that you'll wave off. Brush. Wait for him to give you a kiss, a seal on your new life together. Brush. But he doesn't come. -End- HOME MISCELLANEOUS FAN FICTION FAN FICTION |
