Extreme Dilute Syrians

The Extreme Dilute Gene is a recent gene discovery.  It exists along the East Coast of the US, and its origins are unknown.  It was not known to be in the western half of the US until these animals arrived from The River Road Hamstery.

It is unique among known hamster genes.  The addition of this gene creates the first example in hamsters of two mutant genes on the same locus.  In this case, both the Extreme Dilute and the Dark-eared White genes are on the c locus.  This adds some new and interesting genetic principles to learn before breeding them.

There are many more details about this gene and the colors which can be produced on The River Road Hamstery's website at:

This is an Extreme Dilute male who arrived in California from The River Road Hamstery.  He has no Gray genes in his background.  This is simply the Golden color diluted by the Extreme Dilute gene.

These are two Extreme Dilute Black syrians who arrived.  The long-haired female on the right is satin while the short-haired male on the left is not.  It is hard to see their true color in these pictures, but it is a nice, dark, chocolaty-brown color.  It's really very attractive.
These are a couple additional Extreme Dilutes who arrived here.  There were a couple more Extreme Dilutes and a Dark-eared White in the shipment.
