The objectives of afternoon sessions are to: - Give the parents a break from the kids. - Have Fun!!! Keep the kids interested. - Enrich the kid’s faith, family life, personality. - Share your faith with the kids / Be a role model. - Make the kids feel important, like they fit in. Let them see that being “good" is “cool”! Sessions: 1) You will be assigned an age group. 2) Pray before your first session and include your group in your prayers everyday. - That God would use you to help enrich the kids’ a) Faith b) Family Life c) Personality - For each individual in your group; offer them up to God, ask Him to open their hearts, ask Him to show them His love for them. - For any concerns/worries you have ~ leave them in God’s hands - That everyone would have a good time during the session and that you would all grow closer to God. 3) Plan your session a) Pick a theme (Bible story or teaching; Moral; Saint story) b) Jot down a few notes to use as your lesson c) Is there a way you could make your lesson more interesting? (have the kids act it out / make it interactive / read a story to them.) d) Plan an activity to do (craft, discussion, game, project, service) 4) Guideline format for sessions a) Pray with the kids b) Do your lesson c) Do an activity Example Session: 1) I have prayed for the eight 9 & 10 year olds in my group. 2) I decide to do a lesson on the parable of the sower and the seeds. 3) I read the parable and then jot down some notes. - Point I want to get across: the way we are brought up and the influences we have are very important to who we will become. 4) To make it interactive I can assign the kids different parts then have them act it out as I read the parable. 5) I would try to have a discussion with the kids so I can connect the parable with their lives. I would ask them questions like: - What kind of lifestyle is like the thorns that choke the life out of the growing plants? - What kind of lifestyle is like rocky ground where the plants can’t take root and is swept away by the breeze. 6) If I’m not getting anywhere with the discussion I can tell them my views on what it means to be planted in the good soil. I would tell them a bit about my family life and how important it was for me to have a loving family. It is also important to express that gratitude. 7) I would have the kids make a Thank You card to their parents / family. |
