This book is based on the controversy surrounding the Olympic ice skating event.  The moment I picked this book up, I didn't want to put it down.  It is very nicely written, and talks about Jamie and David, Elena and Anton and also the Chinese pair.  I learned a lot about Jamie and David reading about them and also the other 2 pairs. I never knew that Elena was paralyzed after her accident, and that Oleg (her former partner) was jealous of Anton.  I mean this book was worth $25 I spent to get it.  I will pick it up again probably in the near future to read.  I just enjoyed reading about these 6 special skaters, and how it all came together at the 2002 Olympic games.  Here are some of my highlights in the book.

~Well its interesting, but my friend that was born in Russia, grew up in the same city as Elena, Nevinnomyssk

~Oleg being jealous of Anton (which is PATHETIC!)

~Elena being not only speech impaired, but also paralyzed on one side of her body

~David training at the same center as Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler

~Jamie going to competitions and being pretty confident she was going to win

~David having a hot temper!

~The Chinese pair didn't attend the special ceremony, not because of the Chinese New Year, but for another reason (hey can't give the book away 100%!)

~Its not unknown, but how Elena, Anton, Jamie and David have become great friends since the Olympics.  Even riding on the same tour bus together. (from what I heard, its long bus trips!)  Its good to see them put it behind them and say hey we didn't make the situation, we just skated.

"Everybody says to me:  Don't you guys get sick of each other?  But we actually feel weird when we're not together.  And now it's really neat, because we're a couple as people.  We have more then skating together.  Like if you saw our house, we don't even have any pictures of us skating.  We feel it's bragging.  We feel it's too much.  I mean-people know." ~Jamie

That right there is my favorite quote from the book!  I hope some day that Jamie and David will get married and begin a family together.  I am so happy I got book cause I learned more about them and the other skaters as a person.  Being a big fan of ice skating, you read these kind of books and realize, hey they are like you and I!  Just have a special talent that has been showcased over and over again!  I remeber watching "Golden Homecoming" on TV, and how Anton summed up the controversy in a good way "We are not politicals we are skaters.  We go on the ice to skate."  You can learn so much when reading a book, and I walked away from this book with a whole new look on them.

*NOTE:  This is my own opinion of this book.  I recommend this to any ice skating fan out there who watched and learned, as I did, more about what was going on at the Olympics with the skating controversy.  You get an inside look at these very talented skaters.
