There are only a couple of PC games that I play, but I play them with style, by which I mean cheats. Usually it's Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings and the Conquerors expansion, and Starcraft and the Brood War expansion. Age of Empires When I play AOE without cheats, I'm usually dead before the Feudal Age. My villagers will be minding their own business, leading blissful lives as shepherds, and all of a sudden I'm rushed by a dozen militia. I guess I just can't stand to see the little guys die. So, my strategies are usually bizarre. With the cheats, I've usually got 10,000 more of each supply than my competitor, so you might think I could afford to be a little careless with my armies. But I'm not. I completely wall the town with towers and a few gates (which I usually lock to keep my villagers from straying). Then if all goes according to plan, the enemy is dead before they reach my gates. That's not good enough, though. I'm still vulnerable to trebuchets, which could take out one or two of my towers before I get to them. So I post villagers near the towers to repair them, then keep several units at the gate, ready to attack. I should be able to see these trebuchets coming long before, since I use the marco and polo cheats, to reveal the map and get rid of the fog of war, but I'm not that observant. If I do send any troops out to battle, I'm sure to send them with plenty of monks to heal them and some villagers to repair my siege workshop units. Speaking of monks, one of my favorite tactics is to use the "aegis" cheat, then create a tone of them, then turn off aegis (lest my opponents should advance an age while I build monks). I'll take my group of monks onto the battlefield, then convert any unit that comes along. When you have a bunch of monks, they usually can heal the converting monk if he should be attacked. I love this because my enemies do all the work for me, and I don't have to build much of an army. One cheat I wish they'd put in AOE is invincibility. It would make my job so much easier. It's something I use a lot in... Starcraft I'm very familiar with the "power overwhelming" cheat. When I'm busy building a science facility, I can't be bothered by just any pesky little occurrence. This cheat is great, because it keeps the enemies focused on that one missile turret that they can't dent, while I leisurely finish construction and then order up a few marines. The only problem is the occasional Zerg Queen, who can still for some reason spawn broodlings. I have to watch out for my own tanks, too, who sometimes kill my troops. I also like Starcraft because the triggers are easy to understand. I don't know how to use the AOE triggers. I bet it would take some reading, which I am unwilling to do. Other Games I also have the original AOE. The only other game I have installed on my computer is Sim City 2000. Yeah, it's old. I hardly play it anymore. I just got so tired of trying to figure out why the pipes didn't connect right, or why my buildings had no power. (No, my city wasn't in New York.) Plus, those damn constituents are hard to please. My brother's obsessed with Star Trek games, but they give me motion sickness. As far as the standard Windows games go, sometimes I play Minesweeper and Solitaire. FreeCell is just too challenging for me. |
