When my sister and I arrived at the Edge, the only other person that was there was my friend, Raven. So, we basically just sat there talking for quite a long time, then about half an hour later, 4 other girls showed up. Then, about 10 minutes later, my friend Amber came in. j. didn't show up for a little while (amber and my sis had time to run to the store and buy film, and STILL make it back before j. went on)
So, j. finally gets there, and he notices me sitting on the floor, right in front of the stool set up for him to play, and he's like "you're here again?! you're like my own personal stalker!" and then he laughed. so we talked for a bit, and then he was tuning his guitar and getting ready to do the interview. So, he's sitting at the table, across from the Brother, and there's a computer in front of him, so he goes to his website, and changes the wallpaper on the computer to a picture of him, then he turns around and looks at me and amber, points to the screen, winks and says "shh!" it was so cute!
so then, after the interview, they played Abused, and j. was like "turn it up! this is the first time i'm hearing it on the radio!" and he was just rockin' out to the music...then he grabbed his guitar, and he started playing, and i was singing along with him. So, after Abused finished, he and Steve set up to do an absolutely AMAZING version of More, acoustically. it was SO good, especially the part that Steve and j. sing acappella. it was breathtaking.
Later, they put people on the guestlist for the show that night, but Amber, Raven and I couldn't put our names on the list, because we weren't 19 (or in Raven's case, she didn't have i.d. to prove she's 19) but i told my sister to put her name on the list, and to add a "plus one" because our friend Kruno would be joining us later. So, after that was all taken care of, and j. left, we decided to go outside the Edge, to wait for Kruno. While we were outside, we made friends with this really cool guy, Fred.
so, Kruno showed up, and we were going to start walking to Lee's Palace. (i invited Fred to walk with us, since we were all going to the same place, and he seemed like a cool guy). So anyways, Amber, Raven and I decided to grab a cab, and the other three walked. So, we somehow made our way to the back of Lee's Palace, in hopes that we *might* be able to get in...or at least, we'd be able to hear most of the show. so we were just waiting around, and then Trevor Tuminski walks past us, with 3 girls and he goes "hi" so i said "hey" and he goes "how are you?" and i said "i'm good, u?" and he said "good" and then walked inside. (it was a very comical moment)
Then, we were just sitting there, and i turned around, and i noticed Lonny walking down the street, so Amber ran up to him, and she talked to him for a few seconds, told him that we were there, and came back. Then, my sister, Kruno and Fred showed up, and we told them not to worry about us, to go in and watch the show. So, they went in, and a little while later, Brent (j.'s road manager?) came out, and he told us that he *wanted* to get us in, but security was really tight, because of the film festival, so he didn't know if he could do anything.
Then, Jet Set Satellite went on, and we could hear everything PERFECTLY...no distortion at all...it would've been perfect for bootlegging, if anyone HAD a recorder. they were REALLY good. lots of energy. (we took turns peeking through a hole in the door) it was really cool. During JSS's set (i think), Lonny came out with a few other people, and he sat with us for a bit, to make sure that we were alright, and we were talkin' to him 'n stuff, and it was very cool. then he had to go in, because he had to get ready to go on stage.
So at that point, it was apparent that we wouldn't be able to get in, so we just settled into our spots, and we listened to the background music. then the show started - j. went on! he sounded incredible!! his new bassist is VERY odd though. we, uhh...didn't like him too much. he kept on pulling these 80's rock-star kicks. odd, odd child...highlights: Lonny waved at us a couple of times, cause he saw us looking through the little hole in the door. j. swore WAY too much...especially considering that his parents were in the crowd. Esthero came on stage to sing a song with j. (i think it was Don't Mean A Thing). j. played all the songs off of poor li'l rockstar, except for My Song. they played the Tomorrow The World version of Flowers For Ophelia. it was really rockin'! but i think i like the new version better.
after the show, we wanted to wait around for a while, to talk to j. again...but it was already past 1am, and we weren't sure what time the subways closed, and we were all going to get in major shit when we got home, so we decided we were better off leaving :)
