I haven't been writing alot lately because when I come away from Can Alley I'm a little overwhelmed.
We've been able to do so much and see so much.
There's a group of guys, who really have no desire to change. They were probably the jokers at the back of class, very witty with lots to say. They seem to enjoy life and the knocks it throws at them. They find what we're doing interesting, but not interesting enough to hold their attention for any length of time. They're really just looking for an audience for their schtick routine.
Then there's two guys who came to SHALOM for a Bible study, and brought a friend! The friend is going to bring his girlfriend and baby. This may be the chance to turn the future of that family.
Two other guys are in rehab, because Jesus showed them some hope. You really have no idea what the Holy Spirit is doing in the hearts of the people you talk to until they say or do something like this. One of the guys had been on the street since he got home from Vietnam. He's decided he just can't live like this anymore.
There's another couple of guys who just avoid us. They've heard the message, but it's not even worth the potatoes to them, I pray that God softens their hearts before it's too late.
There's a couple of guys who vary in their attitude of us, usually based on who they're with.
There's another guy who has saved up and bought a car to travel to PA to be reconciled with his wife. He's been reading his New Testament every day.
Then there's a one time pastor who is receiving mentoring to minister to homeless on a full time basis.
We meet with a pretty limited group, so people have pretty much established themselves as saved, seekers or skeptics. We're really not pushy. Our message is God's love through Jesus. But God's message serves God's pupose. It convicts, it brings hope, it saves and it restores. We never have to worry about what words to use, because our words are only the vehicle to the message the Holy Spirit is sending.
