November 13, 2004 (continued) I returned to the other end of the alley to find Jodi across the street witnessing to “Scott”. (You will have to read Jodi’s journal to find out about our new Native American friend). The next people we met were a group of 3 Native American. This was a quick hello, we gave them some potatoes and one of them took a Gospel of John, then they were off. Next “Mike-E-Mitchell” and “Mitchell” came along. Mike-E was wearing a Catholic Saint pendant. I pointed at the pendant and said, “Do you know Jesus?” In broken English he said yes. Mitchell who spoke little English (he spoke Spanish) and was very drunk really wanted Jesus. We gave both of them a potato, and they hurried to turn in their junk. “You stay right here – I come back OK – you understand me?” Yes I said, we will be here. “You stay here OK – I come back.” At this point Rickie came along. We introduced ourselves and offered him a potato. He ate like he hadn’t eaten in a month. He kept assuring us that he was not homeless. I offered him a Gospel, which he took. I asked how things were going for him. He said he a job. I asked if we could pray with him. “Sure, I can always use prayer.” We prayed with him for Jesus to bring him a job and that he would show himself to him. Then off he went down the alley. As Rickie was leaving Mike-E and Mitchell came back. I don’t know how to put into word what happened over the next 45 minutes. Mitchell was so hungry for Jesus he would leave. We prayed with him we hugged him; we shared the love of Jesus for him. Mike-E even left, but Mitchell stayed. He said he want a change. No more beer he said. Everyday always beer. No more, I want a change. I told him, that before Jesus it was always beer for me, but now with Jesus, no more beer. We gave him a Gospel. No I need Spanish, I get my nephew to read this to me. You bring me Spanish one. Mitchell was so hungry for Jesus. We hugged many times. He hugged the kids and Jodi. He had tears in his eyes. He was so broken. The language barrier was hard, but Jesus still came through and touched this man. THANK YOU JESUS FOR BRINGING THESE MEN TO US SO THAT WE COULD SHARE YOUR LOVE!!! |
