CORNBREAD

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Process a few seconds to mix and grind egg shells. Bake in greased 9 inches pan at 350 degrees till done or approximately 45 minutes.
  2. When cool cut in pieces and feed or process and add to egg food. Extra can be frozen.

COUSCOUS

Directions:

  1. Place Two cups wheat or white couscous and Two Tablespoons Poppy Seeds in a metal bowl.
  2. Heat Two cups milk and Two Tablespoons Olive Oil to scalding.
  3. Add hot milk mixture to couscous.
  4. Stir immediately. Wait about one minute and stir again to keep it from setting on the bottom. Stir periodically but not to often until it cools.
  5. If it is not fine an fluffy when it cools, put in food process a few seconds. In the worst case scenario, add some dry CeDe or ABBA Green Nestling food for the right consistency.
  6. Feed as it is or add to egg food.
  7. During breeding substitute wheat germ oil or cod liver oil for olive oil. Change back to olive oil one month before the end of breeding so the hens will stop laying and go into molt.

HARD-BOILED EGGS

Directions:

  1. Cover eggs with water and bring to boil. Turn heat down and continue boiling for exactly 12 minutes.
  2. Drain and cover with cold water changing several times until the eggs are cool. Correctly cooked eggs should not have a any dark layer around the yolk. Refrigerate.

EGG FOOD

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups CeDe (Sunshine 1-800-8782666)
  • 1 can Strawberry or Vanilla Regular Ensure (Complete Liquid Nutrition contains Soy) or Soya Drink

Directions:

  1. Mix the above items in very large bowl or pan and set aside. Add 2 cups ABBA Green Nestling Food and process.
  2. 1 recipe cool cornbread above. Processed fine and add CeDe mixture and process fine again.
  3. 1/2 loaf whole wheat bread processed fine and mix in.
  4. 1 recipe cool couscous above and mix in.
  5. In processor mix
    1. 5 cups ABBA Green Nestling Food (ABBA Products 908-353-0669)
    2. 8 Hard-boiled Eggs as described above
    3. 1 Tablespoon Bene-Bac Avian Derived Lactobacillus (Pet Ag 1-800-323-0877)
    4. 1 Tablespoon Spirulina (Earthrise 1-800-995-0681)
    5. 2 Tablespoons Soy Protein Powder
Add to other ingredients and process again. Should be light green color, fine and only slightly moist. Make adjustments by adding more ABBA Green as needed. Package in plastic zip lock bags.
Refrigerate what you use in two days. Freeze the rest and move one package from freezer to refrigerator the night before you need it.
Watch the birds feet. They should look light pink or creme but not red. If the feet look red the next day after eating this egg food, add about 1/3 more ABBA Green. Some birds are more sensitive to protein levels than other birds.


EGGFOOD II

Ingredients:

  • 1 large slice corn bread or 2 slices of 100% whole wheat bread, process a few seconds to make into crumbs.
  • 1 teaspoon Super Preen Vitamins.
  • 1 teaspoom calcium powder with D3.
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable protein powder.
  • 1/2 cup Lafeber's Pellets.
  • 1/2 cup Hill's Nestling Food.
  • 1/2 cup Abba Green Nestling Food.
  • 1/2 cup Ce De Nestling Food.
  • 9 hard-boiled (cooled) eggs with shell (eggs are boiled 12 minutes).

Directions:

  1. Process a few seconds in a food processor.
  2. Freeze a one days supply in individual plastic bags.
  3. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator immediately prior to use.
  4. Feed the egg food in an open plastic container. This encourages it to dry rather than spoil.
  5. Put fresh egg food in the cage twice a day.
  6. Young should be taken off egg food gradually when they can eat seeds or pellets. This will be at approximately 6 weeks of age.

EGG BISCUITS

Ingredients:

  • 6 eggs.
  • 3/4 C. Sugar.
  • 4 Tbsp. Real Lemon Concentrate.
  • 1 C. Whole Wheat Flour.
  • 1/2 C. Raw Wheat Germ.
  • 3 Tbsp. Yellow Corm Meal.
  • 1 Tbsp. Powdered Vitamin/Mineral supplement (Superpreen or Vionate).
  • 1 Tbsp. Vegetable Protein Powder.
  • 1 Tbsp. Brewers Yeast.
  • 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder.
  • 1/2 tsp. Iodized Salt.
  • Optional for coloring red birds: 1/2 tsp. dry canthaxantin.

Directions:

  1. Separate egg whites from yolks and place whites and yolks in different bowls.
  2. Beat egg whites stiff and set aside.
  3. Beat yolks and gradually add sugar.
  4. Add lemon juice.
  5. Fold 1/2 of the beaten whites into the yolk mixture.
  6. Fold in dry ingredients.
  7. Add remaining beaten egg whites.
  8. Mix lightly.
  9. Spray pan (15 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 1" heavy aluminum baking sheet) with Pam.
  10. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for approximately 35 minutes.
  11. Turn out of the pan to cool.
  12. When cool, cut into small pieces.
  13. Freeze bags of these and thaw as needed.
  14. You can dry them completely and store. if biscuits are not completely dry, they can mold during storage. Dry biscuits can be moistened before feeding.

SONG ENHANCER

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups niger
  • 2 cups canola rape
  • 2 cups raw hulled sunflower chips
  • 1/2 cup bee pollen

Directions:

  • Mix the above ingredients and feed 2 teaspoons of the mix per bird to increase song frequency.

Songbird Show Cage Mix

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups canary mix ( I use Kaytee Fortified Diet)
  • 1 cup canola rape
  • 1 cup hulled sunflower chips
  • 1 cup niger
  • 1/2 cup petamine
  • 1/2 cup bee pollen

Directions:

Feed during the time the birds are in show cages. Also feed bread or cracker each day with the mix.
