January: "Lesson One", now re-written as "Take On Me", Is recorded in London with producer Tony Mansfield, who was responsible for produce great albums as: Methods of Silence, from the german group Camouflage Cardinal Points, from spanish singer, Ana Torroja and XXX from spanish singer Miguel Bosé. April 1985: "Love Is Reason", their follow up in Norway does not chart. May: Slater has A-HA remake "Take On Me" with Alan Tarney as producer, but it fails again; A-ha were again very depressed. In june the trio splits up to spend summer in Oslo. So if a good management and a good record company couldn´t help then. Who could? The band thought that they have a hit, but it seems that nobody heard the song they found a lot of prejudice against foreing groups. But the history changes when they contacted Steve Barron, who created a history comic strip character coming to life taking a girl, who´s reading a magazine; The comic back with him into the strip. Barron, combined regular film-techniques and cartoons. A-ha flies to Los Angeles for a promo visit and "Take On Me" is given it´s third UK released. In October 19th: "Take On Me" tops US charts; The fever was beguinnig to spead across the country. November: "Haunting High and Low", is issued and hits UK number 2 and USA # 15. A-HA have appered on three of America´s biggest music programmes: Solid Gold and American Bandstands, on American Television alone they´ve been seen by over 30 million people. Sales of "TAKE ON ME", made each member of A-ha a millionare. |
