Cayer, Ovila was a Sergeant serving with Company A, 14th United States Infantry and a native
of Canada. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on February 15, 1867 for his actions at Weldon
Railroad, Virginia (August 19, 1864) where he saved the regimental colours and commanded the
regiment after all of the officers were disabled.
O'Neill, Stephen was a Corporal with Company E, 7th United States Infantry and a native of
Saint John, New Brunswick. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on September 28, 1891 for
his actions at Chancellorsville, Virginia (May 1, 1863) where took the regimental colours from
the color bearer, who had been shot, and carried it for the rest of the battle.
Rand, William was a Private with Company D, 1st United States Infantry who was a native of
Canada. After the war he moved to South Dakota and was a member of the Grand Army of the
Republic there.
