In the early winter of 1862, General Floyd was ordered to bring his brigade to Ft. Donaldson, on the Ohio River.  Gen. Floyd left behind the 22nd Infantry, due to disease, poor clothing. no shoes, and starving men. The 22nd had been in constant battle since spring of 1861.  When Floyd surrendered at Ft. Donaldson, Tiger John McClausland refused to surrender, and broke for freedom. General Floyd was relieved of command, and General Hnery heth took command. His unpopularity and lack of agression, was replaced by Gen. William W. Loring.  The organizational structure would continue to brigade through summer of 1862, as the Confederate Army was re-organized in spring of 1862.  Also, with passage of the Partisan Ranger Act, Amicks formed a partisan ranger company, to defend their homes and scout for General Echols.
