F-4E Phantom II |
BLOCK # F-4E-38-MC |
A.F. SERIAL 68-366A |
This is the F-4E Phantom that I am basing my simulator cockpit on. DATE IT FIRST FLEW - 26 March 1969 SQUADRONS IT HAS FLOWN WITH ; *02 May 1969 - 16th TFS, 33 TFW, Eglin AFB, Florida, then redesignated the 58th TFS before a deployment to Kunsan Korea in 1970. It did not go to Thailand with the 58th in 1972. *17 April 1974 -Ogden ALC - Hill AFB Utah, Leading Edge Slats conversion *20 June 1974 - back to the 33rd TFW in Eglin AFB, Florida. *1975 - Homestead AFB, used for BCH class with 309th TFS 31st TFW. *10 April 1979 - 70th TFS (White Knights), 347 TFW, Moody AFB,Ga. (Last noted there April 1987) *February 1988 - 457 TFS, 301 TFW, Carswell AFB, TX, *May 1990 - Sheppard TTC, Sheppard AFB, Texas THE CURRENT PAINT JOB ON 68-366A IS THAT OF THE 421 TFS "BLACK WIDOWS". IT TURNS OUT THAT 366 NEVER FLEW WITH THIS SQUADRON, THE GUY IN CHARGE OF REPAINTING 366 WAS ONCE IN THE 421st AND HE SIMPLY REPAINTED 366 IN HIS OLD UNIT'S COLORS. HERE IS WHAT I HAVE OF THE 421st HISTORY 23/4/69 - 25/6/69 475 TFW, Misawa, Japan 25/6/69 - 31/5/72 366 TFW, Da Nang 31/5/72 - 11/10/72 Unknown Parent Unit, Takhli 31/10/72 - -/18/73 432 TFW, Udorn Beginning in Noverember, 1965, before converting to F-4s, the 421 TFS flew F-105 "Thuds" from Korat RTAFB, Thailand. Major Fred L. Tracy of the 421 became the 1st F-105 pilot to down a MiG-17 on June 29,1966. Today the 421 flies F-16 Fighting Falcons in the 388 TFW in Hill AFB, Utah. |
This is what the F-4 looked like in 1998 with it's 457 TFS scheme, before being repainted. |
I would like to express many thanks to Patrick Martin for his help in finding information about this Phantastic Phantom. |
