As my old page used to mention, I'm not ever going to get into hard core competition. But is no harm in building a fairly simple competition plane and using it for sport flying. The SAM 8 guys have fun competing without exhibiting any cut throat habits (quite the opposite). I have eyeballed the list of upcoming events to determine something I might be able to have fun with. I'm leaning towards "outdoor commercial" (rather large rubber powered planes), Jimmy Allen (also largish rubber powered planes with very cool character), .020 replica, perhaps Dakota time target (not really a SAM event, but they fly them anyway). I'd try electric "1/2 A Texaco" r/c assist if I didn't think it would go over like bean dip in church.
