Late Winter 1996 Backpacking Trip

FINALLY, the color pictures of the winter 1996 (March) trip! Thanks Ron for the excellent scans.

It was cold enough that when we reached our final campsite, all water for drinking and cooking had to be from melted snow and icicles.

Hank standing in front of a very rare North American yellow ice fall.

Doug in God's country.

Serious snow, dude. The photographer was standing on at least seven feet of packed snow for this picture. Tuckerman's Ravine is in view; do you know where Huntington's Ravine is?

There was a snow drift up and *over* the roof 10 days earlier.

Two happy campers (wishing we didn't have to leave; photo by Seth,
the winter caretaker).

Doug with some Northern Presidentials in the background (the only black-and-white image left; soon to be a color pic as well).
