"IN THE BOX" REVIEWS
These IN THE BOX reviews are listed in exactly the same fashion as the Kit Review Index (ie: by designation). As the title suggests, reviews in-the-box basically summarise what the kit looks like before it is built: it's parts, decals, panel lines, accuracy (where known) etc. Information about what the reviews generally contain (those of mine and others following a specific format) is provided underneath the index below.
Contribute your own In-the-box Review: If you would like to supply a review 'in the box' on a kit not yet covered on this site you are more than welcome to do so. Simply complete the on-line form available through the link below - which also contains info on what to include in a review - or if you prefer send the details in an email.

Reviews themselves will vary in content depending on the author but I will
generally post reviews that stick to a consistent format. In general they will
contain the following topics summarising impressions on the kit:
Kit - the exact kit name (& number where known)
Parts - how many parts, sprues, colour, are they packaged,
panel line details, flash, photo etched detail sets, etc
Instructions - an overview of the instructions, how the
assembly steps are rated, what's included, paint reference call outs
Versions - how many examples does the kit replicate and
details of the aircraft
Decals - who produces the decals (where specified) and what
is included on the sheet
Accuracy - this is merely perceived accuracy (because the
model hasn't been built yet!) but things I look out for are omissions from the kit, a
quick look at the dimensions of the fuselage/span, and so forth
Detail - This looks at cockpit, wheel well, bomb bay and
panel line detail and gives a summary of each
Options - A summary of moveable components and optional
positioning parts eg: open speed brakes, flaps, canopies etc
Impressions - a 'notes' section summarising the reviewer's
impression of the kit
Comments - any other comments relevant such as other reviews
on similar products, variants etc
Ratings will also be given in various parts and will be summarised as
follows:
Poor - The lowest rating that really suggests the component
be replaced, be wary
Adequate/Reasonable - Borderline but will do the job it's
intended for, take care
Good - Better than adequate but nothing to write home about,
will do the job quite okay, likely to be accurate
Very Good - Enhances the kit, will make the task
enjoyable/much easier, commendable, accuracy observed
Excellent/Outstanding - Certainly is worth recognition and
you can't do much better than this, superb
